    Abstract: In a color selecting mechanism (1) for a color cathode ray tube, in which a color selecting electrode, having grid elements (8) and slit shaped apertures (9) formed there-between, is seam-welded on a frame (2,3,4), the ratio of the distance (b) from the ends of the apertures (9) to seam-weld (17) to the length (a)of the apertures (9) is set equal to or less than 2.5 percent. Such a construction damps vibration quickly and allows damper wires (12, fig 4) to be positioned outside the effective picture area of the screen.
