    Abstract: A remote control commander for an apparatus, such as VTR deck, includes a rotary dial assembly (200) rotatably mounted on a housing for manual operation by a user. The commander includes a position detector (21, 22, 213) for monitoring angular position of a rotary dial disc (210) of the assembly (200). The angular position and/or angular displacement of the rotary dial disc (210) represents which of a plurality of functions of the apparatus (10) is to be controlled. An encoder (24) produces an encoded signal which varies in dependence upon the angular position and/or angular displacement of the rotary dial disc (210). The encoded signal is transmitted through a transmitter (27) to a receiver (16) provided in the apparatus to be controlled. The received signal is decoded in the apparatus to trigger the function represented by the received signal.

    Abstract: A remote-controlling commander includes a rotary dial rotatably mounted on a commander housing for manual operation of the user.
