PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly adjust an optical pickup interchangeable between a CD and a D VD by simplifying the adjustment. SOLUTION: A first signal recording layer 5 where a CD and a physical format are the same and a second signal recording layer 7 where a DVD and a physical format are the same are provided. In each of the signal recording layers 5, 7, data subjected to EMF modulated is recorded concentrically.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and rapidly cancel stray light. SOLUTION: This optical disk device is provided with a control circuit which emits a laser beam and forms a first detection signal from the output of a photodetector based on the return light detected by a photodetector during shielding of an objective lens by a shielding part 8 for shielding the objective lens 6a and cancels the first detection signal from the second detection signal formed from the output of the photodetector based on the return light of the laser light cast to the photodisk during non-shielding of the objective lens.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable centering regardless of the size of a disk-like recording medium, and to facilitate the handling of the disk-like recording medium. SOLUTION: A disk centering apparatus comprises a disk placement section 3 that has a disk placement surface 4, where the disk-like recording medium 1000 is placed, and provided with a specified reference point 4a on the disk placement surface; and a plurality of disk centering sections 10 that press the outer periphery end of the disk-like recording medium while at least three of them are provided in the radial direction with the reference point of the disk placement surface as a center. Each disk centering section can be moved between a centering position for centering the disk-like recording medium in contact with the outer periphery end of the disk-like recording medium placed on each disk placement surface, and a standby position outside the centering position with a reference point as a reference. The centering position is at the same distance from the reference point in the radial direction with the reference point as a center. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the adjustment of a pair of optical pickups which are used to reproduce a double-sided reproduction DVD and to quickly conduct the adjustment. SOLUTION: An optical disk is provided with a first signal recording layer 5 of a first disk substrate 2 side onto which the light beam from one of the optical pickups is made incident and a second signal recording layer 7 of a second disk substrate 4 side onto which the light beam from the other optical pickup is made incident. Recording tracks are provided on the layers 5 and 7 in a spiral and a reverse spiral, respectively. The recording direction of the data of the layer 5 is started from either one of the inner periphery or the outer periphery whereas the recording direction of the layer 7 is reversed with respect to the recording direction of the layer 5. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an objective lens from being flawed when closing the objective lens with a shutter in order to prevent foreign matters like dust from being stuck to the objective lens. SOLUTION: An optical pickup device is provided with an optical pickup 11 provided with an objective lens 14 which condenses light beams emitted from a light source to the signal recording face of an optical disk D, a shutter 47 which opens and closes the objective lens 14 to and from the outside, and a microcomputer 61 which controls a driving part which supports the objective lens 14 movably in the focusing direction and the tracking direction, and the microcomputer 61 moves the objective lens 14 in a prescribed position farther away from the optical disk D before the objective lens 14 is closed with the shutter 47, and thus the objective lens 14 is prevented from being flawed due to contact with the shutter 47. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make large the permissible range of a disk wherein centering is enabled and to center the disk accurately for a long period with durability. SOLUTION: This table has a tapered centering part 37 engaging the center hole 1a of the disk 1 mounted on a disk mount part 34 and this centering part 37 is provided with elastic displacement parts 39 which can elastically be displaced along the inner and outer peripheries of the centering part. On the inner peripheral side of those elastic displacement part 39, a ring-shaped elastic body 40 is provided which energizes the free-end sides of the elastic displacement parts 39 toward the outer periphery of the centering part 37 to prevent the elastic displacement part 39 from being overdisplaced. An elastic body 40 is supported by a support member 45 where the elastic displacement parts 39 are energized to maintain a secure elastic displacement state.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily assemble a light pick-up device and easily adjust the direction of light beam being applied to an optical disk. SOLUTION: A device is provided with a base 1 where an opening part 11 in that a lens barrel 6 with an optical device 8 including a light source is inserted is formed and an objective lens drive mechanism 16 that has an objective lens 15 for applying a light beam being emitted from the light source being arranged at the lens barrel 6 while converging it to an optical disk and is mounted to the base 1 by supporting the objective lens 15 so that it can be driven and displaced in two-axis directions that orthogonally cross each other. In this case, the lens barrel 6 that is inserted into the opening part 11 of the base 1 is supported by the base 1 so that it can be rotated with the light axis of the lens barrel 6 as a center and at the same time is pressed and supported in a direction being in parallel with the light axis of the lens barrel 6 by press support parts 27 and 28 being provided at the objective lens drive mechanism 16.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify and to expedite the adjustment of an optical pickup to perform recording/reproduction of different types of optical disks. SOLUTION: In an adjusting optical disk 1, a first signal recording layer 5 having the same physical format as CD and a second signal recording layer 7 having the same physical format as DVD are provided, EFM modified data is concentrically recorded on each layer 5, 7, and the recording regions 8, 9 of each layer are arranged so as to be superimposed. By using this optical disk 1, the adjustment of the optical pickup 11 in reproducing CD and DVD can be carried out continuously without changing the adjusting optical disks.
