Abstract: On transmit, the VCO (16) output is modulated by a data signal (Txin) applied to the PLL via an amplifier whose gain, and hence the FSK deviation, is adjusted by a variable resistor (28). On receive, the unmodulated VCO provides in-phase and quadrature outputs to two mixers (42, 43) to generate I and Q receive channels. These are lowpass filtered (45, 46), limited (48, 49) and fed to an FSK demodulator (51), one receive channel producing a test output (52) before demodulation. To set the transmitter deviation, transmit mode is selected, a standard data signal applied to modulate the VCO and a carrier at the nominal frequency is applied to the receiver antenna terminal (38). The deviation control is then adjusted until the desired difference frequency is measured at the test output. An Independent claim is included for a method of adjusting an FSK transmitter/receiver circuit of the type described in the invention.
