Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst useful for preparation of vinyl acetate by impregnating and drying a support comprising a mixture of inert microspheroidal particles having a specific pore volume and a specific surface area with an aqueous solution comprising a halide-free metal salt of Pd, Au, or the like, and alkali metal. CONSTITUTION: A support for preparation of a vinyl acetate catalyst comprises a mixture of inert microspheroidal particles having a pore volume of 0.2-0.7 cc/g and a surface area of 100-200 m /g and 50% of the particles has a particle size below 100 μm. This pre-formed microspheroidal inert support (for example, silica) is impregnated with an aqueous solution not containing substantially organic solvent and of a halide-free metal salt comprising Pd, M (M is Ba, Au, La, Nb, Ce, Zn, Pb, Ca, Sr, Sb or their mixtures) and at least one kind of alkali metal and the impregnated microspheroidal support is dried. Consequently, the fluid bed vinyl acetate catalyst useful for preparation of vinyl acetate can be obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst useful for preparation of vinyl acetate by milling a fixed bed catalyst precursor comprising Pd-Au, or the like, supported on a fixed bed catalyst support with a fluid bed catalyst binder to form a slurry, drying the slurry, and impregnating the obtained microspheroidal particles with a solution of alkali metal salt. CONSTITUTION: A slurry is formed by milling a fixed bed catalyst precursor comprising Pd-M (M is Au, Ba, Cd, Bi, Cu, Mn, Fe, Co, Ce, U or their mixtures) on a fixed support (example, silica sphere) with a fluid bed catalyst binder (for example, aqueous slurry of inactive support such as silica). The slurry is dried to form microspheroidal particles of a solid fluid bed catalyst precursor, and the particles are arbitrarily impregnated with a solution of alkali metal salt to form a fluid bed catalyst. The catalyst has a structure of Pd-M-A (A is an alkali metal, M is a present in the range of 0 - about 5 wt.%, and A is present in the range of 0 - about 10 wt.%).
