Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide high activity for preparation of unsatd. nitriles at a temp. lower than the conventionally used temp. by using a catalyst having the specified structure during ammoxidation of olefins into unsatd. nitriles. CONSTITUTION: Olefin selected from the group consisting of propylene, isobutylene and mixtures thereof is reacted with molecular oxygen contg. gas and ammonia in the gas phase at a temp. of about 260-600 deg.C at an increased pressure in the presence of an oxide catalyst, to convert it into corresponding acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile and mixtures thereof. During which, the reaction is carried out in the presence of the catalyst having the formula: Aa Kb CSc Mgd Nie Fef Big Mo12 Ox (A is Co, Mn, Cr, P, Sb, Te, Na, Ce, W or mixtures thereof, a is a number of 0-5, b is a number of 0-0.4, c is a number of 0-0.4, provided that the total of b and c is 0.1-0.4, d-g are each 0.2-10, x is a number determined by valencies of other elements present).
