    Abstract: Hydroperoxides are catalytically decomposed using a novel metal complex of the formula: wherein M is a positively charged metal or metal compound; Z is S, O, P, S-P, or S-S; L is C, P, or N; and A is selected from the group consisting of halogens; hydrogen: N-R wherein R is selected from the group consisting of H, C1-30 alkyls and 4 to 8 membered aryls optionally substituted with one or more Cl1-20 alkyls and C1-20 alkoxys; and hydrocarbon groups containing up to 30 carbon atoms optionally substituted with halogen atoms, C1-12hydroxy groups, C1-12 acid groups, C1-2 aldehyde groups, C1-12 ketone groups, and C1-10 nitrile groups; and wherein n is 1 or 2; and b is 1, 2 or 3. These catalysts are especially effective in decomposing either cumene hydroperoxide or cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide to phenol.

    Abstract: A Motor fuel is provided which comprises a blend of (1) a mixture of hydrocarbons boiling within the gasoline range, and (2) an aryl ether boiling with the gasoline range, the aryl ether having the structure: R1 - (R2)n - O - R3 wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of phenyl, substituted phenyl substituted with one methyl group, substituted phenyl substituted with two methyl groups and substituted phenyl substituted with one ethyl group; R2 is selected from the group consisting of substituted CH2 substituted with one or two methyl groups, ethane, and substituted ethane substituted with one or two methyl groups; R3 is selected from the group consisting of methyl and ethyl; and wherein n is 0 or l. These aryl ethers are especially useful in increasing the octane number of unleaded gasolines.

    Abstract: PRODUCTION OF SYNTHESIS GAS Gas mixtures containing at least hydrogen and carbon monoxide are prepared by reforming hydrocarbons in the presence of a catalyst impregnated on a specially prepared porous catalyst support. In one embodiment of the present invention, methane is reformed in a one-step process to produce a product gas mixture containing about equal portions of carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a Group VIII metal impregnated on a specially prepared porous catalytic support.

    Abstract: 2093332 9205862 PCTABS00011 Oxygen is separated from an oxygen-containing gas by introducing the gas into a first zone (1) of a gas separation apparatus, the apparatus comprising first (1) and second (2) zones separated by a mixed metal oxide membrane (8), the membrane (8) having a first surface (7) open to the first zone (1), a second surface (10) open to the second zone (2), and an empirical formula of Bi Ax My Mz' On, where A is at least one of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Y, Th, U, and the lanthanide elements; M is at least one of Sc, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu and Zn; and M' is at least one of Co, Rh, Pd, Pt or Ru. The oxygen separated from the oxygen-containing gas can be recovered from the second surface (10) of the membrane (8) either as molecular oxygen, or it can be reacted with an oxygen-consuming substance, such as a hydrocarbon gas, which can be introduced into the second zone (2) of the separation apparatus and brought in contact with the second surface (10) of the membrane (8).
