Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor device or a compact image forming device for forming an image of an optical code-symbol. SOLUTION: A semiconductor device or miniature imager for imaging optical code symbols comprises no more than 1024 pixels, wherein each of the pixels has an aspect ratio that is greater than 2 to 1 with a short dimension not greater than 4 μm and not less than 2 μm, wherein preferably the pixels are arranged in a single row. The optical and electrical systems of the miniature imager are optimized to reduce one or more dimensions or the volume of the imager. Also provided is a bar code reader including a sensor for imaging a field of view of the reader comprising a single semiconductor device as described above.; Apparatus and techniques are provided which reduce and/or eliminate the need for illumination of a target by the imager, thereby reducing the overall power consumed by the imager and/or its overall size. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor device or a small image forming unit for forming the image of a code symbol by using a minimum amount of power. SOLUTION: The semiconductor device or the small image forming unit for forming the image of the optical code symbol has the pixels of not more than 1024. The short size of each pixel is 2 μm to 4 μm and it has the aspect ratio of 2 to 1. It is desirable that the pixels are arranged in a single row. The optical and electrical system of the small image forming unit is optimized so that the volume of one-dimension or the larger dimension on the small image forming unit is reduced. A bar code reader including a sensor for imaging a field of view of the reader having the single semiconductor device is further supplied. A device or technology for reducing and/or eliminating necessity for target illumination by the image forming unit are supplied. Thus, overall power consumed by the image forming unit and/or the whole size is reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
