    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display of gradation and display at a high speed with low electric power consumption possible by controlling the coloring states at respective pixels to adequate states.
    SOLUTION: The method for driving the display device comprises displaying images by impressing prescribed voltages to the respective pixels and precipitating and dissolving metal. The voltage pulses or AC voltages having the amplitude below the threshold at which the metal precipitates are added and writing pulses or erasing pulses are controlled according to the current values flowing at this time. Otherwise writing is performed and thereafter the additional writing pulses are added when the current values fall down to the prescribed values or below. Further, the states of the pixels are detected according to the current values and rewriting operation is selected according thereto.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize handwritten display of a practical level in a display device or the like called as electronic paper.
    SOLUTION: Handwritten input information is displayed on the display device in which pixels are selectively colored by power supply and the colored state is maintained even after interrupting the power supply. In this case, an image is directly drawn on a display panel on the basis of position information (handwritten input information) from a position information detection means to attain real time display. After high speed direct drawing, additional write may be permitted. It is also available to directly draw an image based on the position information from the position information detection means in a state of being superposed on an image display based on external picture information.
