Abstract: 14 CANON A ELECTRONS POUR FOURNIR DES ELECTRONS GROUPES EN IMPULSIONS COURTES L'invention concerne un canon à électrons pour fournir des électrons groupés en impulsions courtes de fréquence de répétition prédéterminée f0. Ce canon comporte une cathode (K), une grille (G) et une anode (A) entre lesquelles les tensions appliquées sont des tensions à radiofréquence. La cathode est disposée sur le conducteur central (2) d'une cavité coaxiale (1), en regard de la grille (G) fermant cette cavité. La cavité (1) est fermée à l'autre extrémité par un court-circuit (3) et comporte une dérivation coaxiale (4) de façon à résonner à deux fréquences F1 et F2 multiples de f0 dont le battement induit une tension grille-cathode à radiofréquence. La grille (G) ferme une autre cavité coaxiale (10) dont le conducteur central (11) est creux et dont l'extrémité en regard de la grille constitue l'anode. La cavité (10) est excitée et résonne à une fréquence F0 multiple de f0, ce qui induit une tension anode-grille à radiofréquence. Un choix convenable des fréquences F0, F1, F2 permet d'obtenir des paquets d'électrons de très courte durée. Figure 1

Abstract: An electron gun comprises a cathode (K), a grid (G), and an anode (A) between which the applied voltages are radio- frequency voltages. The cathode (K) is disposed on the central conductor (1) of a coaxial cavity (2), facing the grid (G) terminating the cavity (1). The cavity (1) is terminated at the other end by a short-circuit (3) and includes a coaxial branch line (4) so as to resonate at two frequencies F1 and F2 multiple of f0, whose beating induces a radio-frequency grid-cathode voltage. The grid (G) terminates another coaxial cavity (10) whose central conductor (11) is hollow and whose end facing the grid (G) forms the anode (A). The other coaxial cavity resonator is excited and resonates at a frequency F0 multiple of f0, which induces a radio-frequency anode-grid voltage. A proper selection of the frequencies, F0, F1, F2 allows to obtain electrons bunches of very short duration.
