    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a modified polyester lessened in an amount of coagulated lumps of titanium oxide and an amount of by-produced diethylene glycol by such a production process that the modified polyester which contains titanium oxide is produced by copolymerizing a sulfonic acid group-containing isophthalic acid component by using an oligomer produced by directly polymerizing main raw materials of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. SOLUTION: An ethylene glycol solution of the sulfonic acid salt group- containing isophthalic acid component at 50-150 deg.C is added to the oligomer produced by direct polymerization, and there after polycondensation is carried out by adding titanium oxide to it.
