    Abstract: A filter cloth comprising at least a base layer and a filter layer, characterized in that a ratio T/L of a thickness T of the filter layer to a length L of fiber of a fiber bundle constituting the layer is 0.02-0.7, the sum of a projection of the fiber on a surface of the base layer being 8-350 times as large as an area of the surface of the base layer; a filter cloth characterized in that it comprises at least a base layer and a filter layer mainly composed of fiber bundles having a crimped staple ratio of not less than 5 %; a belt type solid/liquid separator characterized in that it has constituent elements of at least a mechanism provided with a belt of the above filter cloth which is passed around a plurality of rolls and adapted to be moved therearound, a mechanism for supplying raw water onto the inclined belt, a mechanism for sucking for supplied raw water from the rear surface of the belt, a mechanism for dehydrating a cake formed on the belt, by pressurizing the same, a mechanism for peeling off the dehydrated cake, and a mechanism for cleaning the belt; and a filter characterized in that it has constituent elements of at least a mechanism in which the filter cloth is provided around drums or disc type structures so as to divide the filter into inner and outer portions, a mechanism for supplying raw water to the divided outer or inner portion so as to pass the same through the filter cloth, a mechanism for cleaning the cloth from a raw water supplying side and/or a filtrate outgoing side, and a mechanism for discharging condensed water occurring due to a cleaning operation.

    Abstract: A sheet material consisting essentially of bundles of ultrafine fibers comprises an entangled core portion and at least one super-entangled surface portion. The super-entangled arrangement has been obtained by treating at least one surface of said core portion with high speed fluid jet streams in order to obtain an entanglement density corresponding to an average distance between adjacent entangling points not greater than about 200 microns. The ultrafine fibers forming said bundles of ultrafine fibers include at least two types of ultrafine fibers, the materials thereof differing in dyeing capability and showing different colours after being dyed. Said sheet material has been dyed with one or more selected dyestuff(s) in order to provide a melange-coloured surface appearance. Due to the combination of superentangled surface portion and melange-coloured surface appearance, said sheet material is excellently suited for the application as grain-type artificial leather and for other apparel use.

    Abstract: An entangled non-woven fabric having a fiber structure which comprises a portion (A) in which ultrafine fiber bundles consisting of ultrafine fibers of a size of not greater than about 0.5 denier are entangled with one another and a portion (B) in which ultrafine fibers to fine bundles of ultrafine fibers branch from the ultrafine fiber bundles and are entangled with one another, and in which portions (A) and (B) are nonuniformly distributed in the direction of fabric thickness. The product of this invention has high flexibility as well as good shape retention. The invention also relates to a grained sheet having on at least one of its surface a grain formed by a fiber structure composed of ultrafine fibers to fine bundles of ultrafine fibers and having a distance between the fiber entangling points of not greater than about 200 microns, and a resin in the gap portions of the fiber structure. The grained sheet of the invention has high flexibility resistance, shearing fatigue resistance and scratch and scuff resistance.

In addition, a filtering machine characterized in being constituted with at least a mechanism for partitioning inside and outside portions by providing the filter cloth of this invention around a drum or a disc-like structural member, a mechanism for passing water through the filter cloth by supplying unfiltered water to the partitioned outside or inside portion, a mechanism for washing the filter cloth from the unfiltered water supply side and/or the other side and a mechanism for discharging concentrated water produced by the washing.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a microorganism carrier usable as a water-treatment carrier for the biological decomposition and removal of dissolved substances, a bioreactor, etc., by forming protrusions positively chargeable in water and having the form of a cord, etc., on a material acting as a swingable stem. SOLUTION: A cord having a bending resistance of >=6cm (by 45 deg. cantilever method in conformity to JIS L1085) is produced by planting fibers such as polyester fibers on a core made of e.g. a polyester by electrostatic planting. The cord is cut to about 8cm long, the cut cords are clamped nearly at the center part with a pair of stems 1 and the stems are twisted to fix the cords and obtain a structure having a number of protrusions 2 protruding perpendicular to the stem 1 in nearly radial symmetry. The protrusions 2 of the structure is sufficiently impregnated with an ethanol solution of a quanternarized polymer produced by reacting a random copolymer of 4-vinylpyridine and styrene with benzyl chloride and the solution is dried to obtain the objective microorganism carrier having the protrusions 2 positively chargeable in water and formed on the material 1 acting as an stem.
