Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a medicine effective for senile disciform macular degenerative disease, containing interferon beta as active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:This medicine contains, as active ingredient, interferon beta, pref. natural-type interferon beta produced by human diploid fibroblasts. If needed, this medicine may be incorporated with a stabilizer, etc. The medicine is made into a pharmaceutical preparation in the form of injection, transpulmonary drug, capsule, pernasal drug, suppository, oral drug, ointment, etc. Intravenous administration is preferable for this medicine, its dose in this case being 1-10000000 units a day. Interferon beta, which degenerates the new blood vessels of choroidea in senile disciform macular degenerative disease and significantly improves visual function and also does not injure the retina, is therefore useful as a medicine for this disease.
