    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:Macrocyclic diesters of the formula (n is 1,2). EXAMPLE:3-Methyl-2,5-dioxa-1,6-dioxocycloexadecane. USE:A perfume improver which has a musk-like odor and shows modification and increasing effects in spite of a trace amount, when it is applied to a perfume composition. PREPARATION:The polycondensation reaction between brassylic acid or its diester and propylene glycol or butylene glycol is effected and the resultant high-molecular- weight polymer is depolymerized in the presence of a catalyst under high vacuum, preferably in a solvent as high temperatures, to produce the compound of the formula. When the compound is applied to a perfume composition such as floral bouquet in a trace amount, the characteristic smell is harmonized and the musklike odor is emphasized to improve the fragrance greatly and increase the retention.

PREPARATION:Dodecanedioic acid or its diester and propylene glycol or butylene glycol are subjected to polycondensation reaction and the resultant polymer is depolymerized under high vacuum in the presence of a catalyst, preferably in a solvent at high temperatures to produce the compound of the formula. When the compound is added to a perfume composition such as floral bouquet in a trace amount, the characterisitc smells are harmonized and musklike odor is emphasized to improve greatly the fragrance and increase the retention.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound, useful as a reagent, etc., under comparatively low pressure, in high efficiency, by continuously taking out the gaseous product, formed by the high temp. gas-liquid reaction of a liquid lactam with NH3 gas introduced continuously into the lactam, from the reaction vessel. CONSTITUTION:A monomer, an oligomer, a polymer of lactam, e.g. epsilon-caprolactam, lambda-laurolactam, nylon chips, etc., or their mixture, is maintained in liquid phase in the reaction vessel, and subjected to the gas-liquid reaction at 280-550 deg.C under normal pressure-100 Kg/cm while supplying NH3 gas continuously into the reaction vessel to form a product containing omega-aminoalkanonitrile. The product is continuously taken out of the vessel in gas phase to give the objective compound. EFFECT:The objective compound can be obtained in high yield using a small amount of NH3, minimizing side-reactions and displacing the equilibrium to the preferable direction. USE:An intermediate of an alkylene diamine which is a raw material of nylon.

When a trace amount of the resultant compound is added to a perfume composition, especially floral bouquet, the characteristic aroma harmonized and the musklike odor is emphasized, resulting in great improvement in the fragrance and increase in retention.
