Abstract: A method for manufacturing improved synthetic bonded filament yarn by forming a unit composite from matrix and island components, assembling a plurality of the unit composites into a randomly bundled multifilament yarn and heating the multifilament yarn at a temperature between the melting points of both components. The cross section of the unit composite can be obtained in any of so-called sheath-core configuration, randomly distributed configuration and bimetallike configuration of the components. The bonded filament yarn has excellent flexibility and a unique surface condition having many wrinkles thereon and the bonded filament yarn of the present invention can be advantageously used for numerous industrial uses such as chafer fabrics of tires, bowstrings, fishing nets, guts of rackets, etc.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly detoxify or remove toxic lipoteichoic acid by using a material for removing or detoxifying lipoteichoic acid having a specified removal rate of lipoteichoic acid in rabbit blood plasma and a specified removal rate of albumin and/or sodium. SOLUTION: The material which detoxifies lipoteichoic acid(LTA) present in a high concentration protein solution such as blood by bonding to LTA has >=60% removal rate of LTA in rabbit blood plasma and >=10% removal rate of albumin and/or sodium. LTA is a substance forming cell membranes and cell walls of gram-positive bacteria belonging to Streptococcus, Lactobacillus, Staphylococcus or the like.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject preventing and therapeutic agent, containing interleukin 6 as an active ingredient and having the activity of efficiently treating and preventing bacterial toxic shock. CONSTITUTION:The objective preventing and therapeutic agent is obtained by adding an additive (preferably human blood serum albumin, gelatin, etc.) to interleukin-6(IL-6) prepared by culturing preferably a human cell (e.g. a fibroblast or an endothelial cell) capable of producing the IL-6 as a principal ingredient for stabilization. Furthermore, this agent is used in an amount of 0.0001-10000mug (preferably 0.001-1000mug) daily per kg body weight as an effective dose.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove and detoxify even an extoxin derived from Gram-positive bacteria by constituting so as to remove or detoxify a toxin derived from Gram- negative bacteria and a toxin derived from Gram-positive bacteria. SOLUTION: This column shape is constituted by optionally combining a transmission type and adsorption type with each other, and removes or detoxifies a toxin by Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria. It is constituted so as to cover a toxin active part by decomposing an active part of a bacterial toxin by an enzyme and chemical reaction or the like or by disengaging a part of a functional group by contacting the toxin with the functional group in a carrier. For example, polymyxin B and a urea bond containing compound are introduced into reactive polystylene fiber, and bacterial toxin adsorbing-removing fiber is obtained. This fiber becomes a material which can adsorb even a yellow staphyloocus toxin without being limited to LPS and has affinity with a bacterial toxin. Therefore, when a column is formed of this, a toxin derived from Gram-positive bacteria can also be removed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject material enabling the introduction of various functional groups at the same time and capable of quickly inactivating or removing complement component even in a solution having high protein concentration such as blood by introducing functional groups capable of forming hydrogen bond. SOLUTION: The objective material for the removal or inactivation of complement component is produced by introducing at least one functional group capable of forming hydrogen bond into a monomer, an oligomer or a polymer. The functional group capable of forming hydrogen bond is e.g. (thio)urea bond, amide group, amino group, hydroxy group, carboxyl group, aldehyde group or mercapto group and it is preferable to have at least one (thio)urea bond or amide bond. The functional group capable of forming hydrogen bond can be introduced by conventional methods. For example, in the case of introducing (thio)urea bond into an aliphatic compound or an aromatic compound, an iso(thio)cyanate compound is made to react with an amino compound.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly judge the presence of Staphlococcus aureus infection with high sensitivity by detecting and/or determining an antibody to toxic shock syndrome toxin-1(TSST-1) in a specimen by enzyme immunoassay. SOLUTION: In a diagram showing TSST-1 concn. by enzyme immunoassay (sandwich method) and a result of blood culture by a normal method in serum of a patient suspected to be infected with Staphylococcus aureus from clinical symtoms and serum of a healthy porson, TSST-1 concn. by enzyme immunoassay is plotted on a vertical axis and positive or negative of Staphylococcus aureus by blood culture of a healthy person or a patient is plotted on a horizontal axis. The TSST-1 concn. in blood of a patient of Staphylococcus aureus positive in blood culture shows a value clearly higher than that of a healthy person and the correlation of TSST-1 concn. and bacteria infection is shown. Further, even in negative in blood culture, the TSST-1 concn. in blood is higher than that in blood of a healthy person and infection impossible to confirm in blood culture by the effect of antibiotics becomes possible by the detection of a toxin.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material which can be combined with β2 microglobulin very effectively and selectively and is inexpensive and stable against steriliza tion, etc., and has an affinity for β2 microglobulin by having a urea bond or a thiourea bond contained in the material. SOLUTION: This material is made to have an affinity for β2 microglobulin by having a urea bond or a thiourea bond contained. It is preferable in making a material with an excellent affinity for β2 microglobulin that the material should contain a group capable forming an aromatic ring or a hydrogen bond. As a group capable of forming a hydrogen bond, a hydroxyl grouper an amino group, especially a secondary or tertiary amino group, is preferable. Further, the group capable of forming a hydrogen bond is to be a hydroxyl group and the hydroxyl group is to be a sugar hydroxyl group. The sugar is to be selected from among chitosan, cellulose, and their derivatives. Further, this material is to be water insoluble.
