Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce electric resistance, improve gas permeability and improve jointing to a catalyst layer of a cell by forming the porous structure of one side layer of sheet material mainly composed of conductive material, to be coarse, and forming the porous structure of the other side layer to be dense. SOLUTION: The sheet material is formed in coarse and dense structure combining fibrous conductive material 5-10 μm in diameter and 1 mm or more in fiber length and fibrous conductive material 5-10 μm in diameter and less than 1 mm in fiber length. A conductive sheet of coarse and dense structure can be formed by forming a coarse porous structure surface of the fibrous conductive material 1 mm or more in fiber length and forming a denser porous structure surface of the fibrous conductive material less than 1 mm in fiber length. It is also desirable to form the conductive sheet of coarse and dense structure using an unwoven fabric structure sheet using carbon fiber 1-30 mm in fiber length for the coarse porous structure surface and using carbon fiber less than 1 mm in fiber length for the dense porous structure surface.

Further, polyelectrolytes containing a base polymer and a polyarylene sulfide sulfone and/or polyarylene sulfone and ion- exchange groups are introduced into the base polymer. Further, when the average degree X of oxidation of the sulfur atom in the sulfide group (-S-), the sulfoxide group (-SO-) and the sulfone group (-SO2-) which are contained in the polyarylene sulfide sulfone and/or polyarylene sulfone is represented in the form of (-SOx-), x is set in the range of 0.8-2.0.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separation membrane for sewage waste water, which has high water permeability and in which the clogging hardly occurs and the stripping of a porous resin layer from a porous base material is prevented. SOLUTION: The separation membrane is manufactured by forming the porous resin layer on the surface of the porous base material composed of an organic fiber. A part of a resin forming the porous resin layer is infiltrated into at least the surface layer part of the porous base material to form a composite layer with the porous base material at least in the surface layer part. When the thickness of the porous base material is expressed by A, the thickness of the porous resin layer is expressed by B and the thickness of the composite layer is expressed by C, inequalities, B>=0.1A and C/B>0.1 are satisfied. When the surface roughness of the porous resin surface is =0.05 Åare not present at least in the porous resin layer and the elimination ratio of fine particles having 0.9 μm average particle diameter is at least 90%.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment method being a membrane separation activated sludge method by which a coloring component, a malodorous component or a phosphorus component of treated water can be decreased, consequently the quality of water can be improved and the clogging of the surface of a membrane is prevented to decrease the frequency of liquid chemical cleaning. SOLUTION: The water treatment method comprises the steps of: mixing activated sludge with the liquid to be treated in a treatment tank to subject the activated sludge-mixed liquid to activated sludge treatment; and subjecting the activated sludge-mixed liquid to solid-liquid separation in a membrane separation unit immersed in the treatment tank or a tank other than the treatment tank. In other words, this method comprises the steps of: adding activated carbon to at least one of the liquid to be treated and the activated sludge-mixed liquid; adding a flocculant to at least one of the liquid to be treated and the activated sludge-mixed liquid; subjecting the activated sludge-mixed liquid, to which the activated carbon and the flocculant are added, to membrane separation; and withdrawing the membrane-permeated liquid to the outside as treated water.
