    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide color filters which are the color filters formed by using a resin black matrix and which hardly give rise to the problem of the occurrence of a display defect. SOLUTION: These color filters are formed by providing the surface of a transparent substrate 22 with a black matrix layer 24 formed by dispersing at least a shading agent into a resin and providing the apertures of the black matrix 24 and part on the black matrix 24 with respective colored layers of three primary colors. In such a case, the differences between the max. values and min. values of the differences in level ΔTR within the pixels of the red colored layers, differences in level ΔTG within the pixels of the green colored layers and differences in level ΔTS within the pixels of the blue colored layers of these color filters are below 0.5 μm.

SOLUTION: These color filters are formed by providing the surface of a transparent substrate 22 with a black matrix layer 24 formed by dispersing at least a shading agent into a resin and providing the apertures of the black matrix 24 and part on the black matrix 24 with respective colored layers of three primary colors. In such a case, all of differences in level ΔTR within the pixels of the red colored layers, differences in level ΔTG within the pixels of the green colored layers and differences in level ΔTB within the pixels of the blue colored layers of these color filters are below 0.5 μm. The process is for production of such color filters.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the adhesive strength of seal resin and to obtain high reliability by allowing the peripheral edge part of the seal resin and a graphic matrix layer to have an area not overlapped with each other in the normal direction of a substrate surface. SOLUTION: Relating to a color filter substrate 1 a BM layer 4 is formed on a glass substrate and the colored layer of red, blue, and green, an overcoat layer of polyimide resin, a transparent electrode of ITO, and an orientation film are formed thereupon in order. The color filter substrate 1 on which the seal resin 9 is printed after being put on a TFT substrate 2 so that its orientation film faces its orientation film, is stuck and heated under a pressure, so that they are brought into contact with each other. Then liquid crystal is injected under a vacuum and the sealing hole is sealed to complete a liquid crystal cell. When the seal resin 9 is applied, the outer peripheral frame part of the BM layer 4 is half coated.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent faulty display such as an afterimage, etc., from occurring by setting the tilt angle of the surface of a color filter on the pattern edge part of a black matrix to be smaller than a specified value. SOLUTION: This color filter is provided with the black matrix 24 and a coloring layer 26 formed on the aperture part of the black matrix 24 and a part of the black matrix 24 on a transparent base plate 22. The layer 26 is flat in the vicinity of the center of the aperture part of the black matrix 24 but swells on the pattern edge part of the black matrix 24 because of the black matrix 24. It is conceivable to form a transparent protective film 28 and a transference electrode 30 on the layer 26 as necessary but the swell on the black matrix 24 is not eliminated. By grinding the surface of the layer 26, the tilt angle θ of the layer 26 on the pattern edge part of the black matrix 24 is set to =1.6 μm.
