    Abstract: A membrane for microfiltration, ultrafiltration or dialysis comprises a methyl methacrylate copolymer containing about 0.5 to 10 mol % of a monomer having sulfonate groups, and a methyl methacrylate copolymer containing about 0.5 to 10 mol % of a monomer having quaternary nitrogen-containing groups. It is manufactured by mixing those copolymers, dissolving the mixture in a solvent such as dimethylsulfoxide or dimethylformamide, and forming a membrane from a solution of the copolymers by casting or spinning. The membrane is particularly suitable for use in the purification of blood, and its most preferable form is hollow fibers. A method of preparing hollow fibers comprises extruding the copolymer solution through a spinneret having an annular orifice defined by a thin central tube while a liquid or gas is being injected into the central tube, and coagulating the extrusion product.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain separating membranes having permeabilities matching to the purposes in a same production step by a method wherein two kinds of methyl methacrylate copolymers are used and the blending of the copolymers and additives incorporated are controlled. CONSTITUTION:A methyl methacrylate copolymer containing 0.5-10mol% of a polymerizable monomer having a sulfonate group and a methyl methacrylate copolymer containing 0.5-10mol.% of a polymerizable monomer having a quarternary nitrogen group are prepared into a membrane by using as a membrane- forming liquid a solution containing the copolymers in dimethyl sulfoxide, with a mixing ratio of (number of sulfonate groups)/(number of quarternary nitrogen groups) in the range of 5/1-1/5 and a polymer concentration of 5-35wt%. The semipermeable membrane thus obtained is substantially impermeable to albumin and has a water permeability rate of 1-2,000ml/hr.m .mm.Hg.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A separating membrane especially useful for a hemocatharsis system, exhibiting a wide range of permeability corresponding to purposes through blending or adjustment of an additive, etc. by the same production process, obtained from a mixture of specific two kinds of methyl methacrylate copolymer. CONSTITUTION:A methyl methacrylate copolymer containing 0.5-10mol% sulfonic acid group-containing polymerizable monomer, preferably sodium p-styrene sulfonate is blended with a methyl methacrylate copolymer containing 0.5-10mol% quaternary nitrogen group-containing polymerizable monomer, preferably 2-metha- cryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride in a weight ratio 1:9-9:1, preferably 2:1-1:2. The average molecular weight of these polymer materials is >=1000,000, preferably 200,000-800,000 in blending. Dimethyl sulfoxide is preferable as a solvent.
