    Abstract: In an electroluminescent element, a substance which brings about luminescence is present between an anode and cathode, and the electroluminescent element emits light of peak wavelength at least 580 nm by means of electrical energy. The substance which brings about luminescence contains at least a fluorescent compound of fluorescence maximum 540 nm or above and a compound with a pyrromethene structure represented by the following general formula (1) or metal complex thereof. (Here, R1 to R7 may be the same or different, and are selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, aryl, aralkyl, alkenyl, arylether, heterocycle, cyano, aldehyde, carbonyl, ester, carbamoyl, amino, and fused rings and aliphatic rings formed with an adjacent substituent. X is carbon or nitrogen, but in the case where X is nitrogen, no R7 is present.)
