Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a film-forming polyester excellent in slidability, opacity and surface appearance, by completing a polycondensation of terephthalic aicd with a glycol at a specified point of the reaction course in the presence of a lithium compound, a calcium compound and a phosphorus compound. CONSTITUTION:In producing an ethylene terephthalate-based polyester by a transesterification or esterification reaction of terephthalic acid or its esterifiable derivative with a glycol, followed by a polycondensation reaction, the polycondensation reaction is brought to completion by adding a lithium compound, a calcium compound and a phorphorus compound in amounts satisfying relationshipsI, II and III, wherein Li, Ca and P are mol% of the lithium, calcium, and phosphorus compounds, respectively, at a point between the start of the esterification or transesterification reaction and a point at which the polycondensation reaction proceeds to an intrinsic viscosity

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyester copolymer having high glass transition temperature and excellent mechanical properties and moldability, by using a dicarboxybenzanilide or its derivative as a part of acid component, and an alkylene glycol. CONSTITUTION:The title polyester is prepared by the polycondensation of (A) an acid component composed of (i) terephthalic acid or its derivative and (ii) a 4,4'-dicarboxybenzanilide derivative of formula (R1,2 are H, lower alkyl, or phenyl) and (B) a 2-4C alkylene glycol. The amount of the (ii) component is 0.5- 50mol%, pref. 2-40mol%, based on the (A) component. The (ii) component can be prepared, e.g. by reacting a p-aminobenzoic acid ester with equimolar amount of the acid chloride of a terephthalic acid monoester.

Abstract: PURPOSE:Title polyester copolymer that is made by copolymerizing a specific amide- group containing compound, thus having a largely raised glass transition point and showing high mechanical properties, insulating and thermal characteristics. CONSTITUTION:Copolymerization of 4,4'-dicarboxybenzanilide or its ester-forming derivative with a polyester from aromatic dicarboxylic acid and alkylene glycol is effected to produce the objective amide group containing polyester copolymer having recurring units of formula I and II [X is aromatic residue, preferably that of terephthaloyl; m and n are 2 or more integral number, preferably 2-6; x and y are 1 or more integer]. The ratio of x/y is adjusted so that y/x+y becomes 0.05-0.45. EFFECT:Said polyester copolymer can be made into colorless or pale yellow fiber, film or plastic.

Abstract: PURPOSE:Specific amounts of formaldehyde and formic acid are made to act on alpha-amino-epsilon-caprolactam to convert selectively only the amino group to dimethyl derivative, thereby giving title compound under mild conditions in high yield. CONSTITUTION:To one mole of alpha-amino-epsilon-caprolactam are added no more than 8, preferably 2-5 moles of formaldehyde and no more than 12, preferably 2-7.5 moles of formic acid and the mixture is heated to 50-100 deg.C to form alpha-dimethylamino-epsilon-caprolactam. Formaldehyde can be used in the form of either an qqueous solution or an oligomer such as paraformaldehyde.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of pharmaceuticals, polymer modifiers, etc., by partially saponifying dimethyl terephthalate, and without converting to carboxylic acid, reacting with a chlorinating agent. CONSTITUTION:A methanol solution of dimethyl terephthalate is added with a methanol solution containing 1.0-1.5mol, based on 1mol of dimethyl terephthalate, of potassium hydroxide, and made to react with heating. The formed potassium salt of monomethyl terephthalate crystal is filtered, and reacted with a chlorinating agent selected from thionyl chloride, phosphorus pentachloride, phosphorus trichloride, and phosphorus oxychloride, to obtain p-chlorocarbonylbenzoic acid methyl ester. The process for the preparation of monomethyl terephthalate by saponifying a monometal salt of monomethyl terephthalate followed by acid treatment, which is essential in the conventional procedure, can be eliminated by this process.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polyester having improved transparency, and improved mechanical properties, e.g., rigidity, elasticity, etc. by subjecting a 4,4'- dicarboxylic acid phenyl ester (derivative), etc. and an alkylene glycol to condensation polymerization. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100-0.5mol%, preferably 30-2mol% based on total dicarboxylic acid 4,4'-dicarboxybenzoic acid phenyl ester (ester forming derivative) shown by the formula (R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl, or phenyl), (B) 0-99.5mol% aromatic dicarboxylic acid (ester forming derivative), and (C) 2-8C alkylene glycol are subjected to condensation polymerization, to give the desired polyester.
