Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title machine sewing thread raising productivity of sewing, having specific intrinsic viscosity, density, excellent durability, a little breedout phenomena and a little hole clogging of needle of machine sewing thread, containing phosphorus element and ethylene terephthalate. CONSTITUTION:The aimed machine sewing thread which comprises a polyester containing 0.3-1.5wt.% (amount of phosphorus element) bifunctional phosphorus compound and having a repeating unit comprising >=85 ethylene terephthalate, has >=0.65 intrinsic viscosity, >=1.38g/cm density, >=120X10 double refraction index, >=5.5 strength g/d, >=60% light-resistant retention ratio of strength, approximately the same physical properties of yarn as those of machine sewing thread containing no flame retardant, setting flame-retardant level depending upon request and a little change of strength by ultraviolet light irradiation.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To carry out continuous production of polyester, excellent in brightness, transparency and processability during molding, by adding glycol-soluble Ca and/ or Li salts to a reaction system lying under specified conditions and reacting the mixture in the presence of a P compound. CONSTITUTION:A slurry containing terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol as the principal starting materials at a predetermined molar ratio is fed continuously to a reaction tank 1, esterified until the concentration of terminal carboxy groups has been decreased to below 600meq/10 g and then transferred by a transfer pump 2 to a catalyst addition tank 3 so that the quantity of the solution held in the reaction tank 1 can be kept constant. Then, the average residence time of the reaction solution in the addition tank 2 is selected to fall within the hatched area defined by A-F (within 1.5hr). The reaction solution after the addition of 0.015-0.20wt% glycol-soluble Ca and/or Li salts and a polymerization catalyst is led to a prepolymerization tank 5 where, after the addition of 0.003-0.05wt% P compound, its polycondensation is allowed to advance under a weak vacuum, and then polycondensed to completion under a high vacuum in a polymerizer 6.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyester, smoothly, by adding a Ca or Li compound to the transfer line of the esterified product in the preparation of a polyester composed mainly of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol, and subjecting the mixture to polycondensation reaction. CONSTITUTION:In the preparation of a polyester using terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol as main starting raw materials, the line for transferring the esterified product obtained in the first esterification reactor 1 and the second esterification reactor 2 to the first preliminary polymerization tank 7 is furnished with a line 4 for adding a Ca and/or Li compound (e.g. calcium acetate, lithium acetate, etc.) to the esterified product, and both components are mixed together in the line. A specified additive is added to the first preliminary polymerizing tank 7, the polycondensation reaction is carried out under slight vacuum, and the reaction product is transferred through the second preliminary polymerizer 8 and the horizontal polymerizer 9 to obtain a polyester having desired degree of polymerization.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber composed of a modified polyester containing a glycol component, having a compressive stress falling within a specific range, high strength and density and excellent weaving performance and exhibiting improved qualities such as adhesivity to photosensitive resin, printing accuracy, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber is composed of a modifier polyester copolymerized with 1-15wt.% of a glycol component having a molecular weight of 300-6,000 (preferably a polyalkylene glycol). The compressive stress of the fiber is 1-8g/mum when 20% of compressive strain is applied perpendicular to the fiber axis of the fiber. The fiber is preferably produced by adding a glycol component prior to the completion of the polycondensation reaction, spinning the obtained modified polyester with an extruder-type melt-spinning machine, winding at 500-4,000m/min and drawing with a hot roller at a draw ratio of 2.6-6, a draw temperature of 88-110 deg.C and a heat-set time of 0.03-0.8sec.
