Abstract: A sheet material 26 is formed by delivering a web 22 of molten material from a die 21 to a cooling drum 23, biaxially stretching the resultant sheet by means of an apparatus 24 providing longitudinal stretching and an apparatus 25 providing lateral stretching and winding up the sheet 26 by means of a winder 27. The thickness distribution across the sheet is measured at each of positions 28, 29, 30 and the final thickness distribution at position 30 is automatically controlled by a control processing unit CPU 31. In this method of control, a correspondence relationship between adjustment of adjusting means 32 arranged on the die 21 and variation of thickness distribution of the sheet material 26 after formation thereof is sequentially estimated using a Kalman filter built into the control processing unit CPU 31 and from the estimated relationship the adjusting means 32 are controlled by optimum amounts in order to enable the thickness distribution to approach a target distribution. The accuracy of thickness control of the sheet material can be greatly increased and also the accurate control can automatically follow any variation in the conditions of a sheet forming process.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermoplastic resin sheet excellent in productivity and also quality and useful as an industrial material, a magnetic material or the like by applying pulse waveform voltages having a specific range of a repeated frequency to electrodes placed on a thermoplastic resin sheet to make the sheet adhere to a body of rotation. SOLUTION: The objective sheet is obtained by applying pulse waveform voltages having a repeated frequency from 200 Hz to 30 kHz and preferably having 0.1-10 μs of the half-width value of a pulse and 0.05-5 μs of a pulse rise time to electrodes (preferably wire electrodes or the like) placed on a thermoplastic resin sheet made of e.g. polyethylene terephthalate to make the sheet adhere to a body of rotation. The thermoplastic resin sheet preferably is produced by melting a thermoplastic resin having a melting specific resistance of 108-1012 Ω.cm and by extruding it as a melt sheet from a spinneret. The body of rotation preferably is a rotary cooling body on which the above sheet is cooled and solidified in an adhered state to the cooling body.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance control accuracy of thickness of a sheet-shaped material by grasping the corresponding relation between a discharged molten material thickness adjusting means of a cap and the thickness distribution of the sheet-shaped material after molding by means of a Karman filter and controlling the thickness of the sheet- shaped material based on said relation. CONSTITUTION:Molten resin 22 discharged in the shape of a sheet from a cap 21 passes through the sheet-shaped material molding process and molded into a film 26 of given thickness. Then, measured data by thickness gages 28, 29 and 30 are put into a CPU 31. On the other hand, a number of adjusting bolts 32 to adjust slit of the cap 21 are disposed by small pitches, and the expansion amount of its Y-Y direc tion is adjusted by the temperature control of a heater 35, based upon which the slit space of a slit-shaped discharge outlet 33 and the thickness of the discharged sheet can be adjusted. As a Karman filter is incorporated in the CPU 31, the thickness distribution of the film can correspond with respective adjusting bolts 32 of the cap 21 after respective processes, and the thickness profile is controlled close to the target value with high accuracy.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate quality by irradiating a surface of a sheet with a light in an oblique direction, forming a photoreceiving image based on a reflected light from the sheet, and measuring protrusions and recesses of the sheet represented on the image in a short time. SOLUTION: A light emitted from an emitting means 1 irradiates a surface of the sheet 4. The light reflected on the surface of the sheet is received by a photoreceiving means 2, converted into an analog electric signal, which is, in turn, transmitted to an image processing means 3. The means 3 A-D converts the transmitted signal to form a photoreceiving image from the converted signal. A standard deviation of a density distribution of the image is calculated, and the sheet is evaluated according to protrusions and recesses of the surface of the sheet represented on the image.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable detection of the boundary between stretched and unstretched portions of a film, by interposing two sheets of polarizers between a projector and an image sensor. CONSTITUTION:A film 1 runs until it is released from a tenter clip and wound with a take off device after the completion of a stretching during the inline. An image sensor 3 is so arranged to cover the whole of an unstretched portion 4 at an end of the film 1 in a field of view. Then, polarizers 5 and 5' are inserted between a projector 2 and the image sensor 3 and a controller 7 processes a signal detected with a CCD of the image sensor 3 and a necessary data is stored to display. With such an arrangement, as there is a difference in the molecular orienting property between the stretched and unstretched portions 4 of the film 1, the use of the polarizers 5 and 5' enables continuous measurement of the boundary between the both portions and that between the unstretched portion and air.
