Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the reaction rate by rapidly discharging volatile components produced outside the process line and to enable a product of excellent quality to be obtd., by providing an upper agitating blade of a reactant-lifting type and a lower agitating blade, said upper agitating blade having a different angle of inclination from that of said lower agitating blade. CONSTITUTION:Each blade 8 is composed of an upper agitating blade of a reactant- lifting type 9, which has an angle theta1 of inclination ranging 10 deg.-50 deg. and is tapered toward the upper end of the blade, and a lower agitating blade 8 which has an angle theta2 of inclination of at least 50 deg.. The blades 8 are fixed to the vertical rotating shaft 7 of a vertical polycondensation reactor 1 by means of a supporting rod 11. A starting reactant such as bis-beta-hydroxyethyl terephthalate and/or a low polymer thereof is introduced through a port 4 into the reactor 1 up to the level of a liquid level 3. While the reactor 1 is heated under reduced pressure, the blades 9, 10 are rotated by the rotating shaft 7. Further, while discharging volatile components produced such as ethylene glycol through an outlet 6, the polycondensation reaction is conducted and the resulting polyester is recovered from a withdrawing port 5.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a polyester polymerization reactor wherein the surface of the reaction liquid is continuously refreshed throughout the whole reaction period, comprising a vertical shaft furnished with specially designed stirring blades. CONSTITUTION:A batch-type vertical polymerization reactor 1 for the production of polyester composed of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid glycol ester, is provided with a vertical rotary shaft 2 having specially designed stirring blades 3. The helix angle theta1 of the blade is 50-80 deg. at a position below 0.4L (wherein L is the height of stationary liquid level), and 10-40 deg. above 0.7L.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide title apparatus which give products having constant quality by rapidly removing byproduct volatile matter to increase the reaction rate, and in which upper agitating blades having through-holes or grooves and inclined at an angle of 10-50 deg. and lower agitating blades inclined at an angle not less than 50 deg., are fixed to a vertical rotating shaft. CONSTITUTION:In a vertical polycondensation reaction apparatus for polyester, upper agitating blades 8 are provided with long grooves or through-holes 9 and are arranged in such a manner that an angle theta1 of inclination is 10-50 deg., and lower agitating blades 8 are arranged in such a manner that an angle theta2 of inclination is not less than 50 deg.. Monomers of a polyester and/or low polymers thereof are charged from a supply port 4 to the vertical reactor 1 to liquid level 3. While heating the reactor 1 under pressure, the agitating blades 8 are rotated by a vertical rotating shaft 7 in such a direction that reactants are pushed up. Volatile matter such as ethylene glycol is formed, and the discharge of the volatile matter through a volatile matter-discharging port 6 to the outside is promoted. Gas-liquid contact area is increased by the long grooves or the through-holes 9, thereby increasing polymn, rate.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent contamination with foreign matter and formation of fish eyes, by feeding a low-polymerization polyester by allowing it to flow along the inside wall of the upper part of a batchwise copolymerization kettle in producing a polyester by feeding the low-polymerization polyester to the polymerization kettle and polycondensing it. CONSTITUTION:A polycarboxylic acid (alkyl ester) compound based on a dicarboxylic acid (e.g., terephthalic acid) and a polyalcohol component based on a glycol (e.g., ethylene glycol) are fed to a batchwise esterification tank 1 and subjected to esterification or transesterification to produce a low- polymerization polyester. The product is fed to a batchwise polymerization kettle 4 in such a way that it can flow along at least 40% of the inside wall of the upper part of the polymerization kettle 4 and polycondensed to produce a polyester. In this way, the production can be continued stably for a long time without encountering contamination with foreign matter and formation of fish eyes.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain bis-beta-hydroxyethyl terephthalate and its oligomer in a short time efficiently, by preheating a slurry which has a low molar ratio of terephthalic acid to ethylene glycol by a static type blender, followed by feeding it to an esterification reaction system. CONSTITUTION:First, a slurry which has a low molar ratio of terephthalic acid to ethylene glycol of 1-1.3 is prepared. The slurry, for example, is then transferred from the pump 1 through the conduit 2 to the static type blender 4 with the heating medium 5 where the slurry is preheated to a temperature not lower than 100 deg.C and not higher than the boiling temperature of ethylene glycol, and the slurry is fed continuously to the esterification reactor 6, give bis-beta-hydroxyethyl terephthalate or its oligomer. The high-temperature slurry can be fed to the ewterification reaction system stably without reducing the flow properties of the slurry. The load of a rectifying column is reduced, and the desired compound is obtained by a simple process. USE:An intermediate for preparing polyethylene terephthalate.
