    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication unit whose quadrature demodulation method and transmission capacity can be changed readily, and to provide its quadrature amplitude demodulation circuit. SOLUTION: In a control unit 37, an inverter (INV) 371, an exclusive OR gate (EX-OR) 372, and a selectors (SELs) 374, 375 are provided. I channel and Q channel data in each 8 lines from analog/digital converters 29, 30 are sent to the inverter (INV) 371 and the exclusive OR gate (EX-OR) 372, respectively. In addition, according to a reception bit rate, by averaging a reversal of an error signal and sending it to amplifiers 27, 28, an offset control of the analog/digital converters 29, 30 is implemented. Furthermore, the speed conversion functions are given to multiplexers 511 and 512 of the PDH system for the sharing. Thereby, the same speed is secured between the digital multiplex signals of the PDH system and those of the SDH system.

CONSTITUTION:Upon occurrence of a power failure during editing work for additionally recording a picture data, the occurrence of the power failure is recorded on a tape 35 to leave a TOC renewing flag (F) of the tape 35 unchanged as 0. Then, when the F is detected as 0 at the time of reproducing the tape 35, the last picture in TOC data recorded on the tape 35 is retrieved, and a picture data recorded after this last picture is reproduced. At this time, program numbers and their picture numbers to be obtained until a nonrecorded part is detected are recorded additionally to the recorded TOC data of a TOC memory 29. By this method, even in case of the power failure during editing work, the TOC is automatically corrected to correspond to the recording contents of the tape 35 at the time of reading the next TOC data, and hence the retrieval is feasible without any problems.

Thus, even when a momentary interruption of a transmission signal or a momentary phase change takes place due to the changeover of a changeover switch 3 of a transmitter TX, no bit error in the transmission signal takes place or should a bit error take place, it is kept within a range of error correction capacity of an error correction circuit 44a, then the transmission signal is continuously demodulated without any hindrance.

Then, at the time of fast forwarding the recording medium (tape) 39, the S-IDs are reproduced and detected by the head 40, the signal recording/ reproducing part 24 and an S-ID detecting part 27, and the boundary position between the recorded area and the unrecorded area is decided upon the time when a time interval for detecting the S-ID becomes more than the prescribed value. By this method, the boundary position between the recorded picture area and the unrecorded picture area can be retrieved at low cost and high speed.
