Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition excellent in flame-retardancy, improved in bleeding thereof, having good appearance and useful for electric or electronic parts, building materials, etc., by blending an olefin-based resin with a specific flame-retardant, a polystyrene-based compound and a flame- retardant assistant in a specific ratio. SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by blending (A) 100 pts.wt of olefin-based resin with (B) 0.5 to 40 pts.wt of organic halogenated aromatic compound-based flame-retardant such as a compound of formula I [A is an alkylene, carbonyl or ether group; X is bromine or chlorine; m+n is 1-10] or a compound of formula II [B is A, thioether group or sulfone; m+n is 1-8], (C) 0.2 to 60 pts.wt of a polystyrene-based compound and (D) 0.1 to 30 pts.wt of a flame-retardant assistant so that the blend weight ratio of the component (C) to the component (B) is 0.4 to 1.5.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fire retarding thermoplastic resin composition good in fire retardant property and excellent in heat resistance. SOLUTION: This fire retardant thermoplastic resin composition is obtained by blending 1-100 pts.wt. bromine-based fire retardant and fire retardant assistant, or phosphorus-bromine based fire retardant or fire retardant assistant, and 1-10 pts.wt. acrylate phenol-based compound of the formula [R1 is H or a 1-4C alkyl; R2 , R3 are each independently H, methyl or C(CH3 )2 -R' (R' is a 1-5C alkyl or phenyl); R4 is H or methyl] based on 100 pts.wt. thermoplastic resin.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain ethylenediamine zinc phosphate that is useful as a frame retardant or the like and simply producible in an industrial scale by dripping an aqueous solution containing ethylenediamine and an inorganic metal base to an aqueous solution prepared by dissolving a zinc compound in a phosphoric acid aqueous solution. SOLUTION: A zinc compound, for example, zinc sulfate or the like is dissolved in a phosphoric acid aqueous solution (the amount of the phosphoric acid is 1.0-2.0 moles based on the zinc compound). Then, ethylenediamine (preferably in an amount of 0.5-0.8 mol per mole of the zinc compound) and an inorganic metal base, for example, sodium hydroxide (preferably in an amount of 2.0-3.0 gram equivalents per mole of the zinc compound) are dissolved in water and the solution is dropped in the zinc and phosphoric acid aqueous solution to effect their reactions and the objective ethylenediamine zinc phosphate represented by the formula: Zn2P2O8C2N2H10 is obtained thereby.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound excellent in light resistance and processability (flowability) when blended in a resin and useful as a flame- retardant for compounding flame-retardant resins frequently used in various electric instruments, etc. SOLUTION: This brominated p-cumylphenol expressed by formula I [(a) is 1-3 integer; (b) is 1-2 integer] is obtained by brominating p-cumylphenol with a brominating agent (e.g. bromine chloride) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. aluminum chloride). The compound of formula I preferably has 2.5-4.0 average brominated number, contains 45-62wt.% bromine, is a viscous material at room temperature having pale yellow color, liquid at >=50 deg.C and contains 0.001-30wt.% of dibromo derivative, 30-95wt.% of tribromo derivative, 1-65wt.% of tetrabromo derivative and 0.01-10wt.% of pentabromo derivative. It is preferable to blend 5-50 pts.wt. of the compound of formula I with 100 pts.wt. of a resin.
