Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart a high degree of flame retardancy by compounding, in a resin, a piperazine skeleton-bearing amine-containing zinc phosphate. SOLUTION: The flame retardant consists of a piperazine skeleton-bearing amine-containing zinc phosphate of the general formula: [A][ZnaPbbOcHd] (wherein a is an integer of 1 to 2; b is an integer of 1 to 3; c is an integer of 4 to 12; d is an integer of 1 to 10; and A represents an amine having a piperazine skeleton). The piperazine skeleton-bearing amine A preferably includes, for example, piperazine, 2-methylpiperazine, N-methylpiperazine or the like. This flame retardant is prepared by mixing a zinc phosphate aqueous solution having a ratio by mole of phosphoric acid and zinc of 1.0 to 3.0 and an aqueous solution of a piperazine skeleton-bearing amine in an amount sufficient to provide a ratio by mole of the amine and zinc of 0.5 to 1.2, followed by adjusting the pH to 3 to 8 and aging. Subsequently, the mixture is subjected to solid-liquid separation, washing and drying. When the zinc phosphate aqueous solution and the aqueous solution of the piperazine skeleton-bearing amine are mixed, the temperature is preferably within a range of 0 to 50 deg.C.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new flame-retardant carbonate compound being an excellent flame-retardant and capable of effecting high flame-retardant performance without deteriorating the mechanical properties of the following resin(s), especially when thermosetting resin(s) or thermoplastic resin(s) is (are) compounded with it. SOLUTION: This flame-retardant carbonate compound is expressed by formula I [(a1) and (a2) are each an integer of 1-3; (b1) and (b2) are each an interger of 1-2), e.g. a compound where (a1)+(a2)+(b1)+(b2)=4-10 in formula I. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction between brominated p- cumylphenol of formula II and phosgen, trichloromethyl chloroformate or trichloromethyl carbonate. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction between the compound of formula II and a carbonic diester. To obtain the other objective flame-retardant resin composition, compounding 100 pts.wt. of a resin with 5-50 pts.wt. of the subject flame-retardant carbonate compound is preferable.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound excellent in light resistance and processability (flowability) when blended in a resin and useful as a flame- retardant for compounding flame-retardant resins frequently used in various electric instruments, etc. SOLUTION: This brominated p-cumylphenol expressed by formula I [(a) is 1-3 integer; (b) is 1-2 integer] is obtained by brominating p-cumylphenol with a brominating agent (e.g. bromine chloride) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. aluminum chloride). The compound of formula I preferably has 2.5-4.0 average brominated number, contains 45-62wt.% bromine, is a viscous material at room temperature having pale yellow color, liquid at >=50 deg.C and contains 0.001-30wt.% of dibromo derivative, 30-95wt.% of tribromo derivative, 1-65wt.% of tetrabromo derivative and 0.01-10wt.% of pentabromo derivative. It is preferable to blend 5-50 pts.wt. of the compound of formula I with 100 pts.wt. of a resin.

SOLUTION: This new compound is a silicon-containing organic phosphoric acid compound of formula I (R1 to R6 are each H or a 1-10C alkyl; (a) to (f) are each 1-3; R7 and R8 are each a 1-10C alkyl, phenyl or a phenyl substituted with one to three 1-10C alkyls), e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by reacting an acid chloride of a diaryl hydrogen phosphate with a dihydroxyaryl to provide a compound of formula III, and further reacting the compound of formula III with a dichlorodiarylsilane or a dichlorodialkylsilane. A flame resistant resin composition capable of manifesting high flame resistant properties is provided by allowing 100 pts.wt. resin to include 1-100 pts.wt. compound of formula I.

SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula (R is H, a 1-10C alkyl, phenyl or the like; m is 1-3; n is 1-9). The compound of the formula is obtained by reacting (B) phosphorus oxychloride with (C) a dihydroxyaryl such as hydroquinone in the presence of (A) an amine such as triethylamine preferably at 0-70 deg.C for 5-10 hours. The amount of the component A used is generally 2 to 2.3 equivalents based on the component B. The amount of the component C used is generally 2-2.3 equivalents based on the component B. A solvent such as 1,4-dioxane, etc., can be used in the reaction.

The compound of the formula is obtained by reacting (A) an aryl phosphate dichloride, preferably phenyl phosphate dichloride or the like, with (B) an aryl phosphate, preferably phenyl phosphate, ordinary while regulating the amount of the component A so as to be 0.5-3 equivalents based on the component B, preferably at 100-250 deg.C for 3-10 hr. The compound can be formulated with a thermoplastic resin or the like such as a polyphenylene ether.

SOLUTION: When 2,2-bis(4-hydroxy-3,5-dibromophenyl)propane is made to react in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent, allyl chloride is added dropwise in the reaction system into a water-organic solvent mixed solution heated at 40-80 deg.C in which 2,2-bis(4-hydroxy-3,5-dibromophenyl)propane and the dehydrohalogenating agent are dissolved, in the presence of one or two or more kinds selected from the group consisting of a bromide, an iodide, a compound forming a bromide by reacting with a dehydrohalogenating agent and a compound forming an iodide by reacting with a dehydrohalogenating agent.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful as a compounding type flame retardant for flame-retardant resins massively used in various kinds of electric equipments. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I (a1, a2, a3 are each 1-3; b1, b2 and b3 are each 1-3). The compound of formula I comprises 0-80 mol.% of the compound of formula I (a1+a2+a3+b1+b2+b3=6 to 8), 80-0 mol.% of the compound of formula I (a1+a2+a3+b1+b2+b3=9), and 0-20 mol.% of the compound of formula I (a1+a2+a3+b1+b2+b3=10 to 15) measured by a gel permeation chromatography analysis, and is a white heat-resistant crystal having a bromine content of 40-63%, a softening point of 200-280 deg.C, and a 5% weight decrease temperature of >=370 deg.C measured with a thermobalance. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a brominated p-cumylphenol of formula II [(a) is 1-3; (b) is 1-2] with cyanuric chloride in the presence of a hydrogen chloride-removing reagent. Resin compositions containing the compound of formula I are excellent in flame-retardant performances and further in light resistance.
