    Abstract: A process for the preparation of a 2,3-dihydro-2-methyl-2,3-dialkyl-7-oxybenzofuran having the formula (I): (I) in which R and R' are the same or different and each represents a lower alkyl group or hydrogen atom, which comprises reacting catechol with an aldehyde having the formula (II): (RCH2)(R')CHCHO (II) or an alcohol having the formula (III): RCH=C(R')-CH2OH (III) in a gaseous phase in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. The products are useful as intermediates in the preparation of insecticides.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a beta-cyclohexylpropionic acid ester useful as a pineapple-note mixed perfume in simplified processes, by the hydrogeneration and esterification processes. Using cyclohexanol and an acrylic ester as easily available starting materials. CONSTITUTION:Cyclohexanol is reacted with an acrylic ester at 150-180 deg.C in the presence of an organic peroxide, e.g. methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, etc., to give gamma,gamma-pentamethylenebutyrolactone. The product is hydrogenated in the vapor phase at 200-300 deg.C in the presence of a platinum group metal catalyst to give beta-cyclohexylpropionic acid. The acid is reacted with an alcohol (pref. allyl alcohol) at 80-100 deg.C to give beta-cyclohexylpropionic acid ester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reactivate the platinum-group metal carrying catalyst with a simple and economical process by cleaning the catalyst deactivated in the synthesis of ammines in an aq. mineral acid soln. as a slurry, and then reducing the catalyst in an aq. reducing agent soln. CONSTITUTION:A powdery or granular platinum-group metal carrying catalyst is used in the synthesis of amines by the reduction of a nitrogen-contg. org. material, and the deactivated catalyst is cleaned in an aq. mineral acid soln. as a slurry. The cleaned catalyst is then slurryed with an aq. reducing agent soln., reduced, and washed with water to reactivate the catalyst. Nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, and sulfuric acid are appropriately used in the first reactivation stage, and the treating temp. is generally controlled to room temp. to 100 deg.C. An aq. soln. of formic acid, formaldehyde, etc., is exemplified as the aq. reducing agent soln. to be used in the second stage.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To selectively obtain the title compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc., in good yield, by reacting a 3-alkoxyacrylonitrile with a mono-substituted hydrazine using readily suppliable raw materials. CONSTITUTION:A 3-alkoxyacrylonitrile expressed by formula I (R1 is lower alkyl) is reacted with a mono-substituted hydrazine expressed by formula II [R2 is (substituted) lower alkyl or aryl], such as methylhydrazine hydrate, in an amount of 1-5mol based on 1mol above-mentioned compound in or without a solvent, such as water, preferably within a basic region, especially pH>=8, preferably at 30-100 deg.C while distilling away an alcohol formed as a by-product to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula III, such as 1-methyl-5- aminopyrazole. Free hydrazine, hydrate or mineral acid salt may be used as the compound expressed by formula II and an aqueous solvent is preferred for the mineral acid salt. pH is adjusted to >=8 by using an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide.
