    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat insulating coating system having the advantage or reducing the weight and moreover limiting the oxidation even in the case ceramic is peeled. SOLUTION: In a heat insulating coating system 20 for a base material 22 made of a superalloy, a superalloy of a type capable of forming an adhesive alumina layer 26 is used. At first, a bonding coat 24 is applied to the local region of the base material 22 in such a manner that a part of the base material 22 is left exposed. The local region is ordinarily defined as the region in which heat insulating coating is first chipped such as the front edge and rear edge of airfoil or the like. Next, the alumina layer 26 is formed on the exposed part of the base material 22 and the bonding coat 24 by heat treatment. Successively, the alumina layer 26 is applied with a ceramic layer 28. In this way, even in the case the ceramic material 28 is peeled, the local bonding coat 24 is left, so that the oxidation of the base material can be limited.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process of forming improved aluminum containing one or more kinds of oxygen activating elements. SOLUTION: A metallic base material is subjected to overlay coating (for example, MCrAL coating) containing >=1 kinds of the oxygen active elements (for example, yttrium, hafnium and silicon) by a general overlay process like low-pressure plasma thermal spraying. Metal (more preferably the transition metal of group VIII, as platinum) is applied by, for example, electroplating onto the base material. The base material is subjected to aluminization by, for example, chemical vapor deposition and is more preferably subjected to heat treatment in succession thereto. Further, thermally insulating ceramics is applied thereto. The aluminide coating containing the active elements having the stable composition and improved durability may be thereby obtained. Such coating may be utilized as the independent type coating and as the bonded coating for the thermally insulation coating to be applied in succession.

Even if the ceramic material is removed, the localized bond coat remains, and reduces the rate at which the underlying substrate oxidizes. A coated article is also disclosed, as is a system that utilizes a conventional superalloy and aluminide coating with the localized bond coat.
