Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process of forming improved aluminum containing one or more kinds of oxygen activating elements. SOLUTION: A metallic base material is subjected to overlay coating (for example, MCrAL coating) containing >=1 kinds of the oxygen active elements (for example, yttrium, hafnium and silicon) by a general overlay process like low-pressure plasma thermal spraying. Metal (more preferably the transition metal of group VIII, as platinum) is applied by, for example, electroplating onto the base material. The base material is subjected to aluminization by, for example, chemical vapor deposition and is more preferably subjected to heat treatment in succession thereto. Further, thermally insulating ceramics is applied thereto. The aluminide coating containing the active elements having the stable composition and improved durability may be thereby obtained. Such coating may be utilized as the independent type coating and as the bonded coating for the thermally insulation coating to be applied in succession.

Abstract: Superalloy Single Crystal Articles A specific composition range and process sequence are described for the production of single crystal superalloy articles which have an exceptional combination of high temperature mechanical properties and resistance to oxidation and hot corrosion. The nominal composition is 6% Ta, 9% Cr, 5% Co, 1% Ti, 1% Mo, 7% W, 5.5% Al, .15% Hf balance essentially nickel. Material of this composition is cast and solidified in single crystal form and heat treated to produce an optimum microstructure.

Abstract: A superalloy composition and single crystal articles of the composition are disclosed. The broad range, in weight percent, is 3.0-20.0% Co, 5.0-10.0% W, 5.0-7.0% Al, 0.4-2.9% Cr, 4.0-8.0% Ta, 0-1.0% V, 0-8.5% Re, 0-1.5% Ti, 0-3.0% Hf, 0-4.0% Mo, 0-2.0% Nb, 0-10.0% of one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt, 0-1.0 of one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Sc, Ac, lanthanides or actinides series of elements, balance essentially Ni. An equation is presented to select the most useful specific compositions from within this range.

Abstract: Corrosion resistant, high strength, superalloy single crystal articles are described. Starting with a nominal composition of 11.75% Cr, 9% Co, 1.75% Mo, 4.5% W, 2.5% Ta, 2.5% Al, 4% Ti, balance essentially nickel, intentional additions are made of carbon and extra tantalum. From 0.05-0.15% carbon is added along with sufficient tantalum to combine with the carbon to form tantalum carbon. The resultant articles have substantially improved hot corrosion resistance and creep properties.

Abstract: Nickel base superalloy single crystal articles formed from a particular alloy and heat treated are described as is the process employed. The resultant articles are substantially free from the grain boundary strengtheners such as carbon, boron, and zirconium and contain only a limited amount of cobalt. As a result of the alloy composition, the alloys have a high incipient melting temperature. The heat treatment process homogenizes the microstructure, and refines the gamma prime morphology. The alloy has particular utility in the fabrication of airfoils (blades and vanes) for use in gas turbine engines. In particular, the strength of articles made according to this invention makes them especially suited for use as blades in gas turbine engines.
