Abstract: A control system, for controlling a flow of wind through a wind power plant comprising a plurality of wind turbine generators, comprising: a first controller, local to the wind power plant, configured to: receive operational data relating to the wind power plant and, in 5response, to send control signals to the plurality of wind turbine generators based on an implemented wind power plant control function, and a second controller. The second controller is configured to: receive operational data from the wind power plant; train a wind power plant model using the received operational data; generate a trained wind power plant control function based on the trained wind power plant model; and transmit the 10trained wind power plant control function to the first controller. Following the transmission of the trained wind power plant control function to the first controller, the first controller is further configured to: update the wind power plant control function with the trained wind power plant control function. The invention has particular utility in the context of controlling the flow of wind through the wind power plant, for example by controlling the wake steering 15and/or axial induction factor of the wind turbines in the power plant. A complex dynamic relationship exists between the control actions of wind turbines and the resultant wind flow through the power plant which is difficult to control accurately through conventional control approaches. The invention implements a machine learning approach to improve the operational performance of the control function over time, thereby to optimise the flow of 20wind through the wind park by controlling the yaw offset/axial induction factors of the wind turbines, which may achieve improved power production.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to a method (100) for determining annual energy production of a wind farm. The method (100) comprises: receiving (102) a definition of the wind farm; modelling (104) the wind field of the wind farm for a plurality of freestream wind speeds in a plurality of wind directions; defining (110) locations for virtual measurement masts upstream of upstream turbines in each wind direction at a clearance from each upstream turbine for identifying wind farm blockage effects; determining (112) a wind farm blockage factor for each freestream wind speed in each wind direction based on data from the virtual measurement masts; receiving (114) measurements from a physical measurement mast located at the site of the wind farm; and determining (116) an annual energy production for the wind farm based on adjusted wind speeds obtained by applying the blockage factors to measurements from the physical measurement mast.

Abstract: A method for controlling noise generated by a wind farm (1) with a plurality of wind turbines (2) is disclosed. A noise propagation model (7) related to noise propagation across the wind farm (1) and in the vicinity of the wind farm (1), under various operating conditions, is provided. For each wind turbine (2), a wind turbine model (8) is provided. A noise level at a predefined evaluation position is predicted, based on the noise propagation model (7), the wind turbine models (8) and information regarding the current operating conditions. In the case that the predicted noise level exceeds a predefined threshold noise value, one or more wind turbines (2) are selected using the noise propagation model (7) and the wind turbine models (8), and by performing an optimisation process with the predefined threshold noise value at the predefined evaluation position as a constraint, the noise generation and the power production of the wind turbines (2) as optimisation variables, and the total power production of the wind farm (1) as an optimisation target, thereby reducing the predicted noise level at the predefined evaluation position to a level below the predefined threshold noise value while maximising the total power production of the wind farm (1).

Abstract: A method for real-time prediction of wind conditions across a wind farm (1) comprising a plurality of wind turbines (1), the wind farm (1) being arranged at a wind farm site, is disclosed. A first library (9) of site specific mean wind flow patterns related to the wind farm site, and a second library (10) of non-site specific turbulence patterns, are provided. Weather data is measured at a plurality of positions within the wind farm site, and based on the measured weather data, a mean wind flow pattern is selected based on the first library (9) and a turbulence pattern is selected based on the second library (10). A site specific wind flow field across the wind farm site is modelled, based on the selected mean wind flow pattern and the selected turbulence pattern, and wind conditions across the wind farm (1) are predicted, based on the site specific wind flow field.
