Abstract:
The disclosure relates to a method of operating a wind power plant, and related power plant controller and wind power plant. The method comprises determining a first active power at a first operating point and applying a first limit value for a reactive power limit. The method further comprises determining a second active power at a second operating point. The method further comprises, responsive to determining that the second active power meets one or more active power conditions referenced to the first active power, applying a second limit value for the reactive power limit. Applying the second limit value comprises limiting a ramp rate of the reactive power limit. The method further comprises generating control signals for one or more wind turbines to control a collective reactive power output of the wind power plant in accordance with the reactive power limit.
Abstract:
A method of controlling a first renewable energy power plant, comprising: determining power delivery of the first renewable energy power plant to a collector bus;receiving data relating to power delivery from a second renewable energy power plant connected to the collector bus;determining the combined power delivery of the first and second renewable energy power plants to the collector bus;estimating the transmission line power loss on a first transmission line between the collector bus and a power grid point of interconnection (POI) based on the combined power delivery; and regulating the power delivery from the first renewable energy power plant to compensate for the estimated transmission line power loss. Aspects of the invention also relate to a computer program product downloadable from a communication network and/or stored on a machine readable medium, comprising program code instructions for implementing a method as defined above, and to a power plant controller.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present invention relate to a method (200) for controlling active power output of a renewable energy power plant (12) comprising one or more renewable energy generators (14). The method (200) comprises: while a measured frequency level of a power network (16) to which the power plant (12) is connected is within a frequency deadband: determining an estimated active power output from the power plant (12) according to a model (101) of the power plant (12) and one or more model inputs; and determining a measured active power output from the power plant (12); and when the frequency level of the power network (22) is outside the frequency deadband: determining an estimate of available active power for the power plant (12) to supply according to the model (101) of the power plant (12) and one or more model inputs; determining an estimate correction factor based on a comparison of the estimated active power output with respect to the measured active power output; correcting the estimate of available active power based on the estimate correction factor to provide a corrected estimate of available active power; and determining and dispatching active power set points for controlling the one or more renewable generators (14) of the power plant (12), the set points being determined based on the corrected estimate of available active power and the frequency level. Aspects of the invention may be used to control the active power output of a wind energy power plant (12) and to determine accurate estimates of the available active power when the frequency level of the connected power network (16) is outside of the frequency deadband.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a power plant controller for controlling wind turbine generators. More particularly, the invention relates to a method for compensating data obtained from measurements at a connection point to the grid in case of a communication failure where communication of such data is lost or becomes unreliable. The measured data are used in the power plant controller for determining setpoints for controlling the wind turbine generators' production of active and reactive power. In response to detection of a communication fault a new setpoint is determined independently of new measured grid data by reconfiguring parts of the power plant controller.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for controlling a power plant during an event which requires a change of the power produced by the power plant, wherein the power plant comprises a plurality of power generating units including at least one wind turbine generator, the method comprises determining the power reference dependent on an available power (Pava), changing the power reference to a modified power reference (Pref_mod) by a power variation (ΔP) in response to detecting a first event, memorizing a power level relating to the actual power production at a time occurrence of the first event, setting a maximum power limit (Pmax) to the memorized power level, limiting the modified power reference (Pref_mod) to the maximum power limit (Pmax), and controlling the power produced by the wind turbines in accordance with the limited modified power reference.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present invention relate to methods (200, 300) for controlling active power output of a wind turbine generator (14) in response to a frequency event on a power network (16) to which the wind turbine generator (14) is connected, wherein the active power output of the wind turbine generator (14) is limited to be below an upper active power limit and/or above a lower active power limit. The methods (200, 300) comprise determining and dispatching active power references to a controller (15) of the wind turbine generator (14) for controlling the wind turbine generator (14). The methods operate to ensure that the value of the active power reference immediately after the frequency event is within the allowable active power range, thereby avoiding any mismatch between the reference and the output that may cause a delay in returning to normal operation.
Abstract:
