Abstract: A fluid ejection system according to this invention operates on the principle of electrostatic or magnetic attraction. In various exemplary embodiments, the fluid ejection system includes a sealed diaphragm arrangement having at least one diaphragm portion and a diaphragm chamber defined at least partially by the at least one diaphragm portion, a nozzle hole located over the at least one diaphragm portion, an ejection chamber defined between the nozzle hole and the least one diaphragm portion and a secondary dielectric fluid reservoir containing a secondary dielectric fluid. The ejection chamber receives a primary fluid to be ejected. The secondary dielectric fluid reservoir is in fluid communication with the diaphragm chamber to supply the secondary dielectric fluid to the diaphragm chamber. In various exemplary embodiments, the secondary dielectric fluid is a liquid, a substantially incompressible fluid, and/or a high performance dielectric fluid having a dielectric constant greater than 1.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for jetting a fluid which have improved performance characteristics. SOLUTION: A piston arrangement 110 is set movably to the inside of a fluid small chamber 120. A movement of the piston arrangement 110 towards a static face plate 130 presses a part of a fluid 140 between the piston arrangement 110 and the static face plate 130 to the outside from a nozzle hole 132 of the static face plate 130, whereby droplets or a jet of the fluid 140 is formed. A viscous force generated by a flow of the fluid along an action surface of the piston arrangement 110 moving towards the nozzle hole 132 or away from the nozzle hole 132 generates a force resisting to the movement of the piston arrangement 110. The resistance force tends to decelerate the movement of the piston arrangement 110 and to prevent the piston arrangement 110 from touching the static face plate 130. The fluid small chamber 120 is constituted of a cylinder arrangement in various embodiments.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fluid ejection system and method having improved performance characteristics. SOLUTION: A fluid ejector 100 comprises a movable piston constitution 110 and a stationary face plate 130. A small fluid chamber 120 is formed between the piston constitution 110 and a substrate 150. The piston constitution 110 is fixed resiliently to the substrate 150 by means of one or more spring component 114. Ejected fluid 140 is supplied from a fluid storage unit the small fluid chamber 120 through a fluid supplement hole 152 made in the substrate 150. The stationary face plate 130 has a nozzle hole 132 for ejecting a fluid jet or a droplet. The piston constitution 110 is moved toward the stationary face plate 130 by electrostatic attraction between the piston constitution 110 and the stationary face plate 130, and a part of fluid between the piston constitution 110 and the stationary face plate 130 is pushed out from the nozzle hole 132 to form a jet or a droplet.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently starting an apparatus being driven electrostatically. SOLUTION: An electric drive system applies a drive signal 152 to an apparatus being started electrostatically such that a resulting electric field has a constant force. The electric drive system applies the drive signal 152 to a fluid ejector 100 being started electrostatically wherein the fluid ejector 100 comprises a piston 120, and a face plate 140 having an ejection nozzle 142. Ejected dielectric fluid is supplied between the piston 120 and the face plate 140. The drive signal 152 is applied to one of the piston 120 or the face plate 140 and causes to generate an electric fluid traversing the fluid between the piston 120 and the face plate 140. The electric field attracts the piston 120 electrostatically toward the face plate 140 and a jet or a droplet of fluid is ejected through the ejection nozzle 142.
