    Abstract: A method to provide a highly intelligent, automated diagnostic system that identifies the need to replace specific parts to minimize machine downtime rather than require extensive service troubleshooting. In particular, a systematic, logical test analysis scheme to assess machine operation from a simple sensor system and to be able to pinpoint parts and components needing replacement is provided by a series of first level of tests by the control to monitor components for receiving a first level of data and by a series of second level of tests by the control to monitor components for receiving a second level of data. Each of the first level tests and first level data is capable of identifying a first level of part failure independent of any other test. Each of the second level tests and second level data is a combination of first level tests and first level data or a combination of a first level test and first level data and a third level test and third level data. The second level tests and second level data are capable of identifying second and third levels of part failure. Codes are stored and displayed to manifest specific part failures.

The system uses SPC, in systems having feedback control based on control sensor data, to identify errant reads and ensure that such errant reads are not used in the applicable feedback loop.     Abstract: The apparatus for dispersing particles metered from a hopper and falling in a stream, comprises a main toner hopper with dispense hole (108) out of which an auger assembly is positioned. A spiralling auger blade (112) is mounted on a shaft (114) for pulling toner from the dispensing ports (108). An upper cover (109) overlies the auger blade while lower cover (116) underlies the auger assembly. A toner dispersing and migrating member underlies the dispensing ports. As the auger blade pulls toner from the of hopper (38), the toner is metered from dispensing ports in the lower cover across the length of a developer housing and in width of screened portion of a toner dispersing and migrating member (122). The member mounted at one end with a flexible hanging member is suspended from a hanging point in the side of lower developer housing portion (104). At the opposite end a connector (127) joins member to a linear motor (125) through a hole at the opposite end of the member. The fresh toner dispensed from hopper is dispersed and transported into position across the length and process directions in the developer housing to replenish toner levels in the developer which are transported by rollers.

    Abstract: A method adjusting toner concentration in a printing machine by first reading a first clean imaging surface reflectance value from a segment of the imaging surface with the developer in an off mode and storing the reflectance value as a reference. A second clean imaging surface reflectance value from the same segment of the imaging surface is then read with the developer in an on mode. The first clean imaging surface reflectance value is compared to the second clean imaging surface reflectance value and the toner dispenser is controlled in response to the difference.
