Abstract: A controls system architecture (110) for an image output terminal (IOT) has a hierarchical structure which isolates subsystem controls for purposes of efficient algorithm design, analysis and implementation. The architecture is preferably divided into three levels (1,2,3) and has a controls supervisor (112) which provides subsystem isolation functions and reliability assurance functions. The architecture improves image quality of IOT outputs by controlling the operation of the IOT to ensure that a toner reproduction curve of an output image matches a tone reproduction curve of an input image, despite several uncontrollable variables which change the tone reproduction curve of the output image.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new improved technique for process control by connecting a specified expected tone reproduction curve with a tone reproduction sample to reconstitute a tone reproduction curve and by controlling a machine operation in response to the tone reproduction curve reconstituted. SOLUTION: In a image forming system having a control device comprising a set of actuator for projecting a printed image on a printed image forming surface, a image forming system is modeled with regard to an actuator for forming an expected tone reproduction curve. The expected tone reproduction curve is defined by a formula and an optional tone reproduction sample is obtained. The expected tone reproduction curve is connected with the tone reproduction sample to reconstitute a tone reproduction curve and a machine operation is controlled in response to the tone reproduction curve reconstituted. Here, in the formula, C is TRC measured, C▵ is TRC forecasted and C-is TRC reconstituted.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that any direct inquiry to a printer is interrupted due to the arrangement of a DFE between the printer and a network. SOLUTION: In this method and device for operating an assemble based on a network for document processing, the assembly is provided with an intelligent network interface controller(iNIC) (20), a document processor (DPS) (10), and a digital front end(DFE) (16) for the DPS. Job data and control data to be communicated through the network to the assembly are communicated only through an iNIC (20) functioning as the threshold of the DPS assembly. Then, the iNIC (20) separates the data, and discriminates job data to be communicated to the DFE (16) from the other data which can be directly communicated to the DPS (10). Thus, it is possible to improve the communicating efficiency by preventing any bottle neck due to the direct communication of the control data to the DPS (10), and the communication of all the data through the DFE (16).
