Abstract:
Provided are an optical receiver that can realize a reduction in the variation of sensitivity in the ultraviolet light region and a reduction in noise in the visible light region and the infrared light region, a portable electronic device, and a method of producing an optical receiver. The first light-receiving device (PD1) and the second light-receiving device (PD2) of the optical receiver (1) are each constituted by forming a second conductivity-type N-type well layer (N_well) on a first conductivity-type P-type substrate (P_sub), forming a first conductivity-type P-type well layer (P_well) in the N-type well layer (N_well), and forming a second conductivity-type N-type diffusion layer (N) in the P-type well layer (P_well). The P-type substrate P_sub, the N-type well layer (N_well), and the P-type well layer (P_well) are electrically at the same potential or are short-circuited.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for monitoring the flowrate and intensity of an electro-magnetic emission, particularly of very short wave-length, in the vicinity of visible light, such as a wave emission in the ultra-violet, for germicidal or bacteriostatic or atmosphere purifying purposes, characterized in that a first and a second sensor are exposed to the radiations to be monitored, each sensor constituted by a transducer, particularly of the photovoltaic type, while a series of filters is interposed in front of said sensors, such that a first sensor is rendered exclusively sensitive to the radiations of the wave-length to be monitored, while the second sensor is rendered insensitive to said radiations, the currents issued by each of these transducers are permanently compared, the differential between the two currents being proportional to the intensity of the radiation monitored, which makes it possible to display this intensity. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out this process.
Abstract:
An approach for controlling ultraviolet intensity over a surface of a light sensitive object is described. Aspects involve using ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength range that includes ultraviolet-A and ultraviolet-B radiation to irradiate the surface. Light sensors measure light intensity at the surface, wherein each sensor measures light intensity in a wavelength range that corresponds to a wavelength range emitted from at least one of the sources. A controller controls the light intensity over the surface by adjusting the power of the sources as a function of the light intensity measurements. The controller uses the light intensity measurements to determine whether each source is illuminating the surface with an intensity that is within an acceptable variation with a predetermined intensity value targeted for the surface. The controller adjusts the power of the sources as a function of the variation to ensure an optimal distribution of light intensity over the surface.
Abstract:
An ultraviolet ray measuring apparatus is provided which comprises first and second photodiodes having substantially the same spectral sensitivity at least in an ultraviolet band, and a first optical filter arranged in front of a light-receiving face of the second photodiode, for shielding only light of at least a part of the ultraviolet band. The apparatus measures the light intensity and its accumulated value in accordance with the difference between electric signals output from the first and second photodiodes. It is preferable that a second optical filter, which has a main transmitting band in the ultraviolet band and a sub-transmitting band in the visible light range, be arranged in front of the light-receiving faces of the first and second photodiode. A multi-step bar graph display device displays indices, such as an MED multiple value and an SPF value, which represent the measured light intensity and accumulated value in association with a reference MED value, so that this apparatus can suitably serve as a sunburn monitor.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A detector for measuring the intensity of light comprises two sensors (11, 12) adapted to produce output signals related to the intensity of light incident upon them, a filter (14) for attenuating light received by one of the sensors in a selected spectral band, and means (15) for combining the output signals of the two sensors to provide a detector output signal representative of the intensity of the light in the said spectral band incident upon the detector. The sensors (11, 12) are so disposed in relation to one another, for example they may be arranged concentrically, as to render them insensitive to their orientation in relation to light incident upon them. Also, there may be a further filter (13) for attenuating light received by both sensors in a further selected spectral band.

According to the ultraviolet ray measuring apparatus of the invention, a second optical filter (30, 30A), which has a main transmitting band in the ultraviolet band and a sub-transmitting band in the visible light range, is arranged in front of the light-receiving faces of the first and second photodiode. A multi-step bar graph display device (4b) displays indexes, such as an MED multiple value and an SPF value, which represent the measured light intensity and accumulated value in association with a reference MED value, so that this apparatus can suitably serve as a sunburn monitor.
