    Abstract: A magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus comprises a ' rotor drum (11) mounting thereon a plurality of rotary magnetic heads (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d), a plurality of reproducing amplifiers (5a-5d), recording/reproducing mode switching circuits (4a-4d), head selection circuits (6, 7), control circuits (21, 22) and a DC voltage source (23). The control signal circuit (21, 22) and the DC voltage source (23) receive a control signal transmitted from a stator drum through a rotary transformer (17, 18b) and produce signals for controlling the mode switching circuits (4a-4d) and the head selecting circuits (6, 7) and a DC voltage for energizing all the circuits on the rotor drum, respectively.

    Abstract: A magnetic head assembly includes a ferrite core (10) sandwiched between two ceramic layers (12, 14). Alumina films (11, 13, 15, 17) are deposited by sputtering on the sides of the ferrite core and on the ceramic layers in one embodiment, and on the ferrite core only in another embodiment, which are then bonded to form an integral head assembly. Slots (20, 22, 24, 26) to provide flying height control are formed in the air bearing surface of the ceramic layers. The process of making the assembly includes the steps of sputter etching the ferrite and ceramic prior to the deposition of the alumina.

    Abstract: This invention relates generally to composite magnetic heads and relates particularly to composite magnetic heads operating with respect to multitrack recorder carrier (32). The composite magnetic head is adapted to record and read records to and from a record carrier particularly suited to a multitrack record carrier (32) and more particularly suited to a multitrack magnetic tape. A composite magnetic head may be moved transversely with respect to the direction of movement of the record carrier so that head alignment with any one of the multitracks of the record carrier may be achieved. The record carrier (32) contacts the head assembly defining a scrub surface (22). A yoke (20) is provided supporting a ferrite core (10) containing an effective gap (26) which permits the head to be physically mounted with respect to the record carrier (32). The yoke (20) is constructed and mounted so that one surface of the yoke (20) is coplanar with the scrub surface (22) of the ferrite core (10) and which extends in both directions transversely to the motion of the record carrier (32) at least a distance equal to the width of the record carrier in each direction so that the record carrier may be evenly supported over the range of movement of the record carrier. A central open area of the yoke (20) is provided to allow for physical access to the coil windings (18, 30) of the ferrite core.
