Abstract: A method for determining a greyness level of a strand of hair and a system adapted to implement this method are provided. First, an image of the strand of hair representing it according to a predefined representation standard is obtained. The image comprises a portion representing the strand of hair with pixels. Then, for each pixel of the portion, a luminance value is determined. After that an amount of pixels in the portion for which the determined luminance value is above a threshold luminance value is determined. Finally, the greyness level of the strand of hair is determined by estimating a ratio of the determined amount of pixels over a total amount of pixels in the portion.

Abstract: A liquid discharge apparatus includes multiple liquid discharge heads, a medium mover, and circuitry. The multiple liquid discharge heads include a first liquid discharge head to discharge a treatment liquid onto a region of the medium and a second liquid discharge head to discharge a color liquid onto the region to paint the region, on which the treatment liquid is applied, in a predetermined color. The circuitry causes the first and second liquid discharge heads to form an evaluation chart. The evaluation chart includes patterns different in a combination of a first discharge amount of the treatment liquid and a second discharge amount of the color liquid. Further, the circuitry performs a setting of the first discharge amount with respect to the second discharge amount according to the coloring, and causes the second liquid discharge head to discharge the treatment liquid onto the region based on the setting.

Abstract: A multispectral sensor array can include a combination of ranging sensor channels (e.g., LIDAR sensor channels) and ambient-light sensor channels tuned to detect ambient light having a channel-specific property (e.g., color). The sensor channels can be arranged and spaced to provide multispectral images of a field of view in which the multispectral images from different sensors are inherently aligned with each other to define an array of multispectral image pixels. Various optical elements can be provided to facilitate imaging operations. Light ranging/imaging systems incorporating multispectral sensor arrays can operate in rotating and/or static modes.

The processor is further configured to output the calculated color dataset to at least one of a display, database or local memory store.

Abstract: Described herein is a method for predicting visual texture parameters of a paint having a known paint formulation. The visual texture parameters of the paint are determined using an artificial neural network on the basis of a number of color components used in the known paint formulation. The method includes determining a value of at least one characteristic variable describing at least one optical property using a physical model for the known paint formulation. The method also includes assigning the value to the known paint formulation, and transmitting the value to the artificial neural network as an input signal for determining the visual texture parameters. The value describes the at least one optical property for at least some of the number of color components of the known paint formulation. The method further includes training the neural network using a plurality of color originals each having a respective known paint formulation.

Abstract: A print system and a method for detecting inline failure of a curing light source of a 3D object printer are disclosed. For example, the print system includes a plurality of printheads, a curing light source, an inline failure detection (IFD) system, a movable member to hold an object, a heat resistant member coupled to the movable member that holds a thermal paper for testing operation of the curing light source and a controller to control movement of the movable member to move the object past the array of printheads, to operate the plurality of printheads to eject the marking material onto the object as the object passes the two-dimensional array of printheads, to operate the curing light source to apply energy to the thermal paper and to cure the marking material, and to operate the IFD system to read the thermal paper to detect a failure of the curing light source.
