Abstract: The present invention relates to a polymer dispersion, which comprises polymer particles dispersed in an aqueous continuous phase. The polymer particles are obtainable by a radical polymerisation of one or more vinyl monomers comprising alkyl (meth)acrylates. A rosin component is dissolved into at least one of the vinyl monomers before the radical polymerisation of the vinyl monomers, and the radical polymerisation is conducted in the presence of the rosin component. The invention relates also to the use of the polymer dispersion for surface sizing of a cellulosic fibre web and to a method for producing a polymer dispersion.

Abstract: The invention describes a method for the manufacture of a plasticized polyvinyl alcohol polymer mixture including the steps of: introducing into a mixing reactor a polyvinyl alcohol polymer comprising homopolymeric polyvinyl alcohol or a blend thereof having a degree of hydrolysis in the range of 93% to less than 98% or more; where the plasticizer comprises two or more compounds selected from the group consisting of diglycerol, triglycerol, xylose, D-mannitol, triacetin, dipentaerythritol, 1,4-butanediol, 3,3-dimethyl-1,2-butanediol, and caprolactam; reacting the water, the plasticizer and the polyvinyl alcohol polymer in the reaction zone to form the plasticized polymer; and allowing the plasticized polyvinyl alcohol polymer to pass from the primary outlet.

Abstract: Provided are a pneumatic tire in which balance between dry steering stability and low rolling resistance is improved while excellent on-ice performance and wet grip performance are maintained, and a rubber composition from which the tire is obtained. The rubber composition contains a rubber component containing a natural rubber and a modified styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber having a glass transition temperature of −50° C. or lower, a resin, a filler containing silica having a cetyltrimethylammonium bromide specific surface area of 190 m2/g or more, and an oil component. A content of the modified styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber in the rubber component is more than 50% by mass.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing a coatings composition with an open time additive comprising the steps of a) contacting an aqueous dispersion of alkali swellable polymer particles with a rheology modifier and a binder to form a coatings composition with a VOC of less than 50 g/L; and b) neutralizing the alkali swellable particles with a non-volatile base after or upon contact with the rheology modifier and the binder to form swelled multi-staged polymer particles; wherein the alkali swellable polymer particles comprise a shell having a Tg of not greater than 25° C. and an acid functionalized core; and wherein the core-to-shell ratio is in the range of from 1:3.2 to 1:10. The composition arising from the process of the present invention is useful for improving open time, especially for low VOC coatings applications.In another aspect the present invention relates to the preparation of the coatings composition with an open time additive comprising the steps of a) contacting the open time additive with a rheology modifier and a binder to form a coatings composition with a VOC of less than 50 g/L, then b) neutralizing the open time additive to form swelled multi-staged polymer particles, wherein the coatings composition with the open time additive exhibits less than a 50% increase in viscosity than the coating composition without the open time additive.

The present invention relates to a rubber composition for treads containing: a polybutadiene; and a terpene resin having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 40° C. to 90° C., the polybutadiene satisfying the following conditions (A), (B) and (C): (A) a ratio (Tcp/ML1+4, 100° C.) of 5% by mass toluene solution viscosity (Tcp) to Mooney viscosity (ML1+4, 100° C.) is 0.9 to 2.3; (B) a stress relaxation time (T80) is 10.0 to 40.0 seconds, which is a time required for torque to decay by 80%, where 100% represents torque at the end of a ML1+4, 100° C. measurement; and (C) a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) is 2.50 to 4.00.
