Flammable foundry coatings are disclosed in which the carrier liquid is safer to handle than previously used types e.g. isopropanol, and which also burns off more satisfactorily. The carrier liquid is a mixture of an essentially aliphatic hydrocarbon liquid of flash point greater than 32.degree. C., e.g. an aliphatic petroleum distillate, and a mono alkyl ether of a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. ethylene glycol monoethyl ether (oxitol).

Stabilized organopolysiloxane oils having at least one aliphatic hydrocarbon radical with at least two carbon atoms and containing rubidium and/or cesium compounds which are at least partially soluble in the oil, in which the amount of rubidium and/or cesium present in the oil is from 0.01 to 3 percent by weight, based on the weight of the oil.The stabilized organopolysiloxane oils are useful as lubricants or as additives for lubricating compositions.

This invention relates to organosiloxanes which have SiC-bonded ester groups and contain at least one unit of the general formula:ROOCCH.sub.2 CH(COOR)CH.sub.2 CHR'CH.sub.2 Si(CH.sub.3).sub.a O.sub.3-a/2in which R represents the same or different monovalent hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, which are free of aliphatic unsaturation and which may contain one ether oxygen atom; R' represents hydrogen or a methyl group (CH.sub.3) and a is 0, 1 or 2. These organosiloxanes can be prepared by hydrolyzing or co-hydrolyzing silanes of the general formula:ROOCCH.sub.2 CH(COOR)CH.sub.2 CHR'CH.sub.2 Si(CH.sub.3).sub.a X.sub.3-a,where R, R' and a are the same as above and X represents the same or different hydrolyzable atoms or groups. Also, they may be prepared by the addition of a diester of allyl succinic acid and/or methallyl succinic acid to an organosiloxane containing Si-bonded hydrogen. These new organosiloxanes may be used as lubricants for inorganic and organic fibers, metal surfaces and as hydraulic fluids.

An improved lubricating oil composition comprising a major amount by weight of oil of lubricating viscosity; a minor amount by weight of solid particles effective to improve the lubricating properties of the composition; and a minor amount by weight of at least one of certain specific polymers has been found to provide improved inhibition of sludge and varnish formation in use. The polymers useful in the present composition comprise(1) an olefin polymer, for example, an ethylene, propylene and 1,4-hexadiene terepolymer, with an dialkylaminoalkyl methacrylate grafted thereon;(2) an interpolymer prepared from a long chain n alkyl-methacrylate and a dialkylaminoalkylmethacrylate or a N (alkanone) acrylamide; or(3) mixtures thereof.

The high-temperature lubricant for the hot-working of metals which comprises (a) 10 to 90 percent by weight of graphite, (b) 2 to 45 percent by weight of an alkylene homopolymer or copolymer, and (c) 0.5 to 8 percent by weight of a dispersing agent. The lubricant is solid at room temperature. The high-temperature lubricant is applied in the form of an aqueous solution which includes 5 to 80 percent by weight of the solid high-temperature lubricant. The process of production and use of the high-temperature lubricant.The high-temperature lubricant for the hot-working of metals which comprises (a) 35 to 90 percent by weight of graphite, (b) 2 to 60 percent by weight of an alkylene homopolymer or copolymer, (c) 0.2 to 8 percent by weight of an auxiliary suspension agent, and (d) 2 to 40 percent by weight of a film stabilizer. A lubricant gel is made from a poly(alkylene oxide) lubricant, a finely divided silica and a gel-strengthening amount of an ionic salt having a pH of 5.5-8.5 when in 0.1 M aqueous solution. The gel is useful in the inflation chamber of a pnemuatic tire to enable it to run safely in a deflated condition for which purpose the gel should have the required viscosity and mechanical stability.
