Abstract:
An image reading apparatus includes: a contact glass provided at an upper surface of a main body of the apparatus to set a manuscript thereon, an image sensor being positioned below the contact glass and having a reading surface on contact glass side for reading an image from the manuscript on the contact glass, a carriage supporting the image sensor accommodated in a sensor container formed to have a recess open to the contact glass side, a rail member slidably supporting the carriage, and a biasing member biasing the image sensor to the contact glass side via a biased portion adjacent to the reading surface of the image sensor. An upper end of the biasing member is positioned below the contact glass and above the lower surface of the image sensor.
Abstract:
A document cover covers a document platen of a housing. The document cover has a cover frame, a document pressing part, and a hinge. The hinge has a first member and a second member. The first member has a rotating shaft and a first fixed part that is mounted on one of the cover frame and the housing. The second member has a fitted part that is fitted rotatably to the rotating shaft, and a second fixed part, which is mounted on the other of the cover frame and the housing. The first member and the second member can change states thereof between a first state in which the first member and the second member can be attached to or detached from each other, and a second state in which the first member and the second member are prevented from being detached from each other.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus according to the invention includes a transparent member on which an original document is placed, a reading unit arranged below the transparent member, the reading unit being movable reciprocally in a reading direction of the original document, a spacer member arranged at the reading unit for maintaining a prescribed interval between the transparent member and the reading unit by contacting to the transparent member, and an electrostatic removing member arranged at a position close to the spacer member when the reading unit is positioned at a prescribed position.
Abstract:
A movable carriage includes a mechanism configured to hold a sensor unit so as to allow the sensor unit to displace with respect to the carriage. The mechanism allows the sensor unit to displace with respect to the carriage in a rotational direction centering on a shaft parallel to a moving direction of the carriage and disposed above a reading area of the sensor unit, and in a vertical direction.
Abstract:
A scanner apparatus includes: a holder configured to hold a line sensor unit; a first spacer and a second spacer disposed on both sides of the line sensor unit in a longitudinal direction and configured to come into contact with the transparent plate; and a biasing unit configured to press the holder toward the transparent plate between the first spacer and the second spacer in the longitudinal direction. The line sensor unit and the holder are coupled together on both sides of the biasing unit in the longitudinal direction. A force applied to the holder by the biasing unit is transmitted from the holder through two coupling portions to the line sensor unit, thereby biasing the first spacer and the second spacer to the transparent plate.
Abstract:
A scanning device includes a scanning platform, a feed roller mounted above the scanning platform and rotatable to bring a sheet-like medium across the scanning platform, first and second elastic elements located under two ends of the scanning platform to press the scanning platform against the feed roller. One end of the scanning device near to the first elastic element is defined as a datum end for guiding the mediums to enter the scanning device. The first elastic element acts a greater force on the scanning platform than the second elastic element, or the distance from the first elastic element to the datum end is smaller than that from the second elastic element to the other end of the scanning device and the force from the first elastic element is equal to that from the second elastic element, so as to make the medium levelly transmitted during being scanned.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus configured to reduce a force required for moving a document cover to an open position is provided. The image reading apparatus includes a document table having a top surface and a reading area and a document cover that is configured to pivot, around an axis extending in a first direction, between a closed position and an open position. The document cover includes a sheet. The top surface has a marginal area which is located outside of a reading area on a side opposite to the axis. The marginal area includes a contact area and a non-contact area which are arranged in the first direction. When the document cover is in the closed position, the top surface in the contact area contacts the sheet, and the top surface in the non-contact area does not contact the sheet.
Abstract:
A scanning apparatus includes: a transparent platen having a first edge and a second edge opposite the first edge, the first and second edges being separated along a scan direction; a frame including: a holder for the transparent platen; and a control panel located proximate the first edge of the transparent platen; a scan bar assembly including a scan element; a motor for moving the scan bar assembly along the scan direction; and a circuit board connected to the control panel, the circuit board including: a plurality of electrical components; a first edge located adjacent a side of the frame; and a second edge opposite the first edge, wherein the second edge of the circuit board is configured to overlap the first edge of the transparent platen.

Abstract:
Apparatus for supporting a scanner head, the apparatus comprising: a carrier assembly; a bogey assembly; and a scanner head assembly, comprising a mounting for holding a scanner head; wherein the scanner head assembly and the bogey assembly are both mounted on spring bearings on the carrier assembly such that they can both move in a vertical direction, and the scanner head assembly comprises at least two collinear vertical bearings which restrict movement of the scanner head assembly to vertical movement substantially perpendicular to a document path, and the bogey assembly comprises two laterally spaced bearings which allow rotational movement of the bogey assembly about the scanner head mounting.
