Abstract:
An optical sensor includes a light receiving device disposed in a housing, an exterior filter rotatably mounted to an attachment surface of the housing, and a light intercepting member which rotates along with a rotation of the exterior filter to adjust an amount of light incident on a light receiving surface of the light receiving device. In this optical sensor, the light intercepting member has a rotary shaft fixed at its center, and has a light adjusting mechanism for adjusting the amount of light incident on the light receiving surface of the light receiving device in a range in a direction of rotation around the rotary shaft. Accordingly, the sensitivity of the optical sensor can be arbitrarily adjusted with a high accuracy.
Abstract:
An apparatus for testing reflectivity of a lens includes an integrating sphere, a light source, a moveable carrier, a detector, and a processor. The integrating sphere has a sampling port for permitting light transfer with a lens to be tested and an exit port configured for transmitting light beams reflected by the lens out from the integrating sphere. The light source generates light beams with a wavelength in a certain range and projects the light beams to the lens. The moveable carrier allows a relative movement between the lens and the integrating sphere. The detector includes a light sensor configured for detecting the light intensity transmitted out from the exit port and transforming it into a reflection comparison signal. The processor is configured for comparing a reference signal of light intensity projected to the lens with the reflection comparison signal to obtain reflectivity of the lens.
Abstract:
An inflatable sheet includes an optical fiber extending across at least a portion of its surface to detect a breach or nuclear radiation. The sheet can line at least a portion of a container or several such sheets can line several walls of the container. A breach of the sheet or radiation within or near the sheet reduces optical transmissibility of the fiber. The fiber integrates the radiation over time and/or over the length and volumetric mass of the fiber, making the fiber sensitive to even low-level radiation. The optical fiber is monitored for a change in its transmissibility. A reduction in the transmissibility, such as to below a threshold, can trigger an alarm, such as an annunciator, a self-destruct circuit or send a message that includes information about the time or the container's contents or location when the breach or radiation is detected to a central location, such as a ship's control room or port notification system.
Abstract:
A photoelectric converter comprising a resin layer that absorbs infrared light cuts out unnecessary infrared light, while the photoelectric converter has a problem that the resin layer also reduces the transmission of light in the visible range. A photoelectric converter improving the problem comprises a semiconductor substrate (2) on which photoelectric conversion elements are formed, a color filter (8) provided on the semiconductor substrate (2), and a support base (21) bonded to the color filter (8), wherein an interference filter (11) comprised of multiple thin layers of dielectric material laminated together and reflecting infrared light is provided to the support base (21). As a result, light attenuation can be minimized while infrared light is cut, and the usage efficiency of light can be increased. A photoelectric converter adjusted to the luminous efficiency of the human eye can be obtained by adjusting the light transmittance characteristics of the color filter (8) to the luminous efficiency of the human eye.
Abstract:
A small infrared sensor has a wide infrared light-receiving area (viewing angle), high electromagnetic shielding characteristics, and excellent electromagnetic-wave resistance characteristics. In the infrared sensor, supporting portions are disposed at four corners of a substantially rectangular opening in a package. The supporting portions support an optical filter, disposed so as to cover the opening, at positions that are lower than an upper end of an inner peripheral wall defining the opening. While the optical filter is supported by the supporting portions as a result of inserting a portion of a surface side of the optical filter facing the supporting portions into the opening, the optical filter is secured to the package. The optical filter and the package are joined and secured, and electrically connected to each other through a conductive adhesive.

Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a cupola and photocontrol receptacle assembly that allows a user to adjust the direction of the cupola base and the photocontrol receptacle simultaneously without using tools. A fixture housing may have an opening for receiving a photocontrol receptacle connection member and one or more ribs located in proximity to the fixture housing opening. A cupola base may include an opening for receiving the connection member and features adapted to detachably engaged the fixture housing ribs. In addition, a spring may be coupled to the connection member and configured to allow the photocontrol receptacle to move in a first direction upon the application of a force in the first direction and recoil when the force is removed or decreased.
Abstract:
An optical element includes a light absorbing medium formed of a transparent material and light absorbing elements encapsulated within the transparent material. The light absorbing elements have an ultraviolet (UV) light-dependent absorption characteristic and UV light is applied to the light absorbing medium to change the attenuation of the light absorbing medium to a desired attenuation. UV light is applied to the light absorbing medium in a controlled manner to change the attenuation of the light absorbing medium from an initial attenuation to the desired attenuation. The application of UV light to the light absorbing medium can cause the light absorbing elements encapsulated within the light absorbing medium to degrade such that the amount of light absorbed by the light absorbing medium is reduced. Reducing the amount of light that is absorbed effectively reduces the attenuation of the light absorbing medium.
