Abstract:
A method for detecting component concentrations in human gas emissions such as breath and gas emitted from skin. A gas sample containing a specified component is collected into a gas cell using a pump and a series of valves to draw the gas sample into the cell and control the gas pressure within the cell. A tunable optical radiation beam is passed through the gas cell and the amount of energy absorbed by the specified component may be measured indirectly by taking the difference between the incident and emerging beam energy or directly by optoacoustic methods. Concentrations of the specified component as small as 0.1 ppB may be determined. Additionally, the tunable optical radiation beam may be multiplexed for use with a plurality of systems utilizing the beam for medical purposes.

Abstract:
A device and method for manufacturing an integrated smoke cell are presented. The smoke cell includes an integral housing with a ceiling portion and a smoke permeable wall forming a chamber when mounted on a printed circuit board. An emitter and detector are mounted above apertures in the chamber ceiling so the emitter and detector are mounted substantially outside the chamber while detecting smoke present within the chamber without blocking ingress of smoke through the chamber wall.
Abstract:
A sensing apparatus (and corresponding method) for monitoring carbon dioxide dissolved in a liquid solution employs a crystal surrounded in part by a sample chamber such that, in use, the liquid solution is in direct contact with the crystal.
Abstract:
The present invention provides systems and methods for measuring an analyte in a medium without exposing the medium to contamination. The systems and methods employ a novel combination of a small sensor device embedded in a Luer cap and capable of wirelessly transmitting data to a reading device.
Abstract:
Thermally controlled enclosures that can be used with gas analyzers are described. The enclosures incorporate one or more phase changing materials that buffer ambient and internal heat loads to reduce the power consumption demand of mechanical or electronic heating apparatus. Maintenance of gas analyzer equipment at a consistent temperature can be important to achieving stable and reproducible results. Related systems, apparatus, methods, and/or articles are also described.
Abstract:
An automatic physiological assay device analyzes light reflected by an assay device and prevents ambient light from interfering with the assay device. The automatic physiological assay device in accordance with the present invention comprises a chassis, an assay device connector assembly, an assay device and a light detecting device. The chassis comprises closed bottom, multiple sidewalls, an inner cavity, an open top and a removable top cover. The assay device connector assembly is mounted slidably through a sidewall and comprises an outer end, two sides and a cover. The cover is mounted on the outer end, seals the sidewall and keeps ambient light away from the assay device. The light detecting device is mounted in the inner cavity and on top edges of guides adjacent the assay device connector assembly.
Abstract:
A limited access space inspection system comprising: an imaging device for imaging a region in the limited access space, a mounting for mounting the imaging device to scan about the limited access space and a scanning control unit, associated with the imaging device, for controlling the imaging device to scan about the limited access space. The device is particularly useful for improving by automation, security checks customs checks and safety checks involving such awkward to access spaces.
Abstract:
There is provided a sample inspection casing capable of easily and surely inspecting an object to be inspected. The sample inspection casing 1 includes: a sample mounting table 5 for mounting thereon an object 11 to be inspected; a prism cut portion 14 serving as an optical path changing portion for allowing the object 11 on the sample mounting table 5 to be irradiated with illuminating light; and an image magnifying lens 15 for transmitting light, which is reflected on the object 11 on the sample mounting table 5, to magnify an image of the object 11.
Abstract:
An integrated biochemical sensor (200) for detecting the presence of one or more specific samples (240) having a device platform (355) with a light absorbing upper surface and input/output pins (375) is disclosed. An encapsulating housing (357) provides an optical transmissive enclosure which covers the platform (355) and has a layer of fluorescence chemistry on its outer surface (360). The fluorophore is chosen for its molecular properties in the presence of the sample analyte (240). The detector (370), light sources (365, 367, 407, 409) are all coupled to the platform (355) and encapsulated within the housing (357). A filter (375) element is used to block out unwanted light and increase the detector's (370) ability to resolve wanted emission light.
