Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure include a solid phase sorbent for preparation of analytical samples. The solid phase sorbent includes particles that are surface modified with an α-cyclodextrin moiety. Also provided is a method of reducing matrix effects in an analytical sample. In some embodiments, the method includes contacting a sample comprising a matrix-interfering agent and an analyte with α-cyclodextrin modified particles to produce a contacted sample wherein the matrix-interfering agent binds to the α-cyclodextrin modified particles; separating the α-cyclodextrin modified particles from the contacted sample to produce a matrix-reduced composition; and detecting the analyte in the matrix-reduced composition. Systems for practicing the subject methods are provided that include the subject solid phase sorbent.

Abstract: Methods for removing salts from a metabolite solution. The methods comprise forming an insoluble silver phosphate salt. Further methods include methods for removing hydrolyzed fluorous compounds. These methods comprise extraction with a fluorous solvent in the presence of a protonation reagent and/or chromatography on a fluorous affinity resin. Methods also include separating lysed cell debris and denatured proteins/disrupted enzymes from a metabolite mixture in a container with a filter, where live cells are grown prior to the lysis, either adherent to the filter or in suspension above the filter. The cells are then lysed in the container.

Abstract: A sample management device which comprises a source flow path in which a fluidic sample can flow, a volume flow adjustment unit configured for adjusting a volume flow of the fluidic sample to be branched off from the source flow path at a fluidic coupling point, and a fluidic valve fluidically coupled with the source flow path and with the volume flow adjustment unit, wherein the fluidic valve is switchable into a branch off state in which the fluidic coupling point is established within the source flow path to branch off an adjustable volume of the fluidic sample from the source flow path via the fluidic coupling point while a flow of the fluidic sample in the source flow path continues.

Abstract: Parts of a pump head of a scroll pump facilitate an assembly process in which the stationary and orbiting scroll blades of the pump are angularly aligned or synchronized with one another. A metallic bellows of the pump head provides a primary means of synchronizing the stationary and orbiting scroll blades. The assembly process may be carried out using a fixture configured to be mountable to an assemblage including the bellows and the orbiting plate scroll. The fixture has a reference feature, and the orbiting plate scroll or the frame has another reference feature that can be aligned with the reference feature of the fixture, in the circumferential direction of the bellows, during the course of the assembly process.

Abstract: An apparatus that includes a gain chip assembly, an external cavity, and a controller is disclosed. The gain chip assembly includes first and second gain chips that are coupled optically such that light travels serially between the first gain chip and the second gain chip, each gain chip is electrically biased. The electrical bias of the first gain chip is independent of the electrical bias of the second gain chip. The external cavity has a tunable wavelength selective filter that is changed in response to a control signal. Light in the external cavity passes through the gain chip assembly. The controller determines the tunable wavelength selective filter, and the electrical bias of each of the gain chips so as to cause the apparatus to lase at a wavelength specified by a control signal to the controller.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to 3′-OH unblocked nucleotides and nucleosides labeled and unlabeled with 5-methoxy-substituted nitrobenzyl-based photocleavable terminating groups for use in methods and systems related to DNA and RNA sequencing and analysis. These compounds may be used as reversible terminators as they exhibit fast nucleotide incorporation kinetics, single-base termination, high nucleotide selectivity, and rapid terminating group cleavage that results in a naturally occurring nucleotide.

Abstract: An apparatus that facilitates the manual sorting of objects is disclosed. The apparatus includes a display surface having a surface that can be selectively illuminated and that is adapted for receiving the objects. An identification reader reads identification information stored on the objects. A controller causes an area on the display surface corresponding to one of the objects to be illuminated based on the identification information and indicates a location to which the illuminated object is to be moved. In one aspect of the invention, the display surface includes an area adapted for positioning a receiver for the objects. The display surface provides an indication of a position in the receiver at which the one of the objects is to be placed.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to improved methods for separating and analyzing compounds by liquid chromatography, particularly when coupled with mass spectrometry. The methods include the addition of an additive to a mobile phase carrying a sample. The mobile phase additive may be effective for improving peak shapes of targeted analytes in acquired data, and/or eliminating or at least reducing ion suppression. The methods are particularly suited for anionic compounds such as phosphorylated compounds.
