Abstract: A process is disclosed for removing contaminants from an olefin stream, comprising passing the contaminated olefin stream through a first adsorbent in a thermal swing adsorption process to produce a relatively pure olefin product stream, and a regenerating gas stream containing the contaminants, passing the contaminated regenerating gas stream through a pressure swing adsorption process to yield a relatively pure regenerating gas stream, which can be redirected to the thermal swing adsorption process for regenerating the adsorbent therein.

Abstract: Described are exhaust gas treatment systems for treatment of a gasoline engine exhaust gas stream. The exhaust gas treatment systems comprise an ammonia generating and hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst, a TWC catalyst, and an ammonia selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst downstream of the TWC catalyst. The ammonia generating and hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst comprises a refractory metal oxide support, a platinum component, and a palladium component. The ammonia generating and hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst is substantially free of ceria and substantially free of NOx storage components. The platinum and palladium components are present in a platinum to palladium ratio of greater than about 1 to 1.

Abstract: A layered catalyst composite for the treatment of exhaust gas emissions, effective to provide lean NOx trap functionality and three-way conversion functionality is described. Layered catalyst composites can comprise catalytic material on a substrate, the catalytic material comprising at least two layers. The first layer comprising rare earth oxide-high surface area refractory metal oxide particles, an alkaline earth metal supported on the rare earth oxide-high surface area refractory metal oxide particles, and at least one first platinum group metal component supported on the rare earth oxide-high surface area refractory metal oxide particles. The second layer comprising a second platinum group metal component supported on a first oxygen storage component (OSC) and/or a first refractory metal oxide support and, optionally, a third platinum group metal supported on a second refractory metal oxide support or a second oxygen storage component.

Abstract: An iron oxide containing effect pigment, and methods for producing and using the same are discussed. The iron oxide containing effect pigment may include an iron oxide coating in direct contact with a particulate substrate, which may have high levels of hematite, magnetite, or maghemite; and low amounts of toxic metals. A method for producing the pigment may include chemical vapor deposition of iron pentacarbonyl onto a particulate substrate. The iron oxide containing effect pigments may be incorporated into compositions, such as cosmetics.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are defined for coating a particulate material. The apparatus includes a mixer having a mixing chamber. A quantity of particulate material is fed into an inlet of the mixing chamber. An agitator is provided for mixing and conveying the particulate material. A feed system is also provided for delivery of a coating into the mixing chamber. The coating is delivered as an atomized spray directed at the mixing particulate material within the mixing chamber. A controller is provided for adjusting the flow of the coating into the mixing chamber based on the volumetric feed rate of the particulate material.

Abstract: An emissions treatment system for an exhaust stream of an internal combustion engine including hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides is provided. The disclosed system can include an exhaust conduit in fluid communication with the internal combustion engine via an exhaust manifold; a first three-way conversion catalyst (TWC-1) located downstream of the internal combustion engine in the exhaust conduit; an SCR-HCT catalyst comprising a selective catalytic reduction catalyst and a hydrocarbon trap downstream of the TWC-1 in the exhaust conduit; and a third catalyst downstream of the SCR-HCT combination in the exhaust conduit, the third catalyst comprising a platinum group metal (PGM) e.g., in an amount effective to oxidize hydrocarbons. Methods of making and using such systems and components thereof are also provided.

Abstract: Certain nickel hydroxide active cathode materials for use in alkaline rechargeable batteries are capable of transferring >1.3 electrons per Ni atom under reversible electrochemical conditions. The specific capacity of the nickel hydroxide active materials is for example ≧325 mAh/g. The cathode active materials exhibit an additional discharge plateau near 0.8 V vs. a metal hydride (MH) anode. Ni in an oxidation state of less than 2, such as Ni1+, is able to participate in electrochemical reactions when using the present cathode active materials. It is possible that up to 2.3 electrons, up to 2.5 electrons or more may be transferred per Ni atom under electrochemical conditions.
