Abstract:
A number of features for enhancing the performance of a communication system, in which data is transmitted between a base station and a plurality of subscriber stations located different distances from the base station, are presented. The power transmission level, slot timing, and equalization of the subscriber stations are set by a ranging process. Data is transmitted by the subscriber stations in fragmented form. Various measures are taken to make transmission from the subscriber stations robust. The uplink data transmission is controlled to permit multiple access from the subscriber stations.
Abstract:
A proactive and unifying systems-based method for total emergency management supported by an information technology architecture. The use of an embedded process for collaboration among a myriad of agencies fulfills newly recognized critical needs for interconnectivity and coordinated relationships among the public, private, nonprofit, and not-for-profit sectors in community preparedness, improved camaraderie among members of separate agencies, and a coordinated, integrated, and synchronized emergency response. Knowing and agreeing upon the actions that precede and succeed an integrating action among entities is the critical output of the synchronization matrix process for the present invention. The concept of tying these integrating actions to hazard actions and to decision points, so that timing of alert and notification, population protection, and response actions can be assessed against what needs to be initiated and when, serves to minimize community impacts from routine and catastrophic emergencies. A software tool implementing the present invention results in a collaborative set of relationship-centric activities (inter-agency planning) and a relationship-centric familiarization among participants (inter-agency coordination and camaraderie).

The present invention provides infectious recombinant Hepatitis C Viruses (HCV), and vectors, cells and animals comprising the same. The present invention provides methods of producing infectious recombinant HCV, and their use in identifying anti-HCV therapeutic agents, as well as sequences of HCV associated with HCV pathogenesis.
Abstract:
An embodiment includes a method to reduce background noise in a spectrum. A further embodiment includes a method to reduce, by at least about two orders of magnitude, background noise in an experimental absorbance spectrum. Further, an embodiment includes a machine-readable medium that provides instructions, which when executed by a machine, reduce background noise in a spectrum. Further, an embodiment includes a machine-readable medium that provides instructions, which when executed by a machine, reduce, by at least two orders of magnitude, background noise in an experimental absorbance spectrum.
Abstract:
An automatic clothes dryer comprises a cabinet adapted for support on a support surface and defining an interior space. A drum is rotatably mounted within the interior space and defines a drying chamber. A drive motor is mounted within the interior space and has an output shaft operably coupled to the drum for rotating the drum. A blower is mounted within the interior space and is fluidly coupled to the drying chamber for moving air through the drying chamber. The blower has a drive shaft remote from the output shaft to permit the independent positioning of the blower and drive motor within the interior space. The blower has an outlet fluidly connected to an exhaust outlet through a conduit that defines an air flow path having less than a 90 degree change in direction.
Abstract:
A water-soluble or dispersible, hydrolytically stable polysaccharide preferably selected from the group consisting of poly-glucan, poly-mannan, gluco-mannan and mixtures thereof. Which is covalently linked by a hydrolytically stable bond to a first polymeric textile softening species (typically a silicone) and optionally emulsified with a second polymeric textile softening species. The specification also discloses laundry treatment composition comprising these compositions.
Abstract:
A microprocessor including memory storage into which ISA customer code routines can be stored after having been decoded into their machine-native microinstructions. The customer code store is not subject to eviction and the like, as a cache memory would be. ISA level code can specify a routine for storage into the customer code store, at a time prior to its execution. The customer code store thus serves as a write-once execute-many library of pre-decoded routines which ISA level applications can subsequently use, permitting a system manufacturer to create a highly customized and optimized system.
Abstract:
A cooled acoustic liner useful in a fluid handling duct includes a resonator chamber 52 with a neck 56, a face sheet 86, and a coolant plenum 80 residing between the face sheet and the chamber. Coolant bypasses the resonator chamber, rather than flowing through it, resulting in better acoustic admittance than in liners in which coolant flows through the resonator chamber and neck. In one embodiment, the liner also includes a graze shield 88. Openings 40, 38 penetrate both the face sheet and the shield to establish a relatively low face sheet porosity and a relatively high shield porosity. The shielded embodiment of the invention helps prevent a loss of acoustic admittance due to fluid grazing past the liner. Another embodiment that is not necessarily cooled, includes the resonator chamber, low porosity face sheet and high porosity shield, but no coolant plenum for bypassing coolant around the resonator chamber. An associated method of retrofitting an acoustic treatment into a fluid handling module includes installing openings in the module and mounting a resonator box 44 on the module so that the inlets to the resonator necks register with the installed openings.

Abstract:
An optical scanner is provided having a memory device thereon. The memory device may store operational characteristics of the optical scanner or data that characterizes laser beam scan path and/or laser power requirements by each laser of the optical scanner. The memory device may be used to store historical information such as device temperature, cycles of operation and other historical information of components within a corresponding electrophotographic device. Still further, the electrophotographic device to which the optical scanner is installed may write operational data to the memory device, for example, to store a backup of registration and other operational parameters that are typically stored by the controller of the electrophotographic device.
