Abstract: Workpieces, which are conveyed by a conveying device along a conveying path, are heated by a heating and degreasing coil. Then, resin powder is downwardly sprayed from a nozzle of a coating device to each corresponding one of the workpieces, which are conveyed by the conveying device. The workpieces are thereafter heated by a heating and curing coil. At each of the heating coils, a dummy member, which is made of an electrically conductive material, is displaced from a retracted position to a forward position, which is located between the corresponding heating coil and a corresponding adjacent part of the conveying path of the conveying device, when an empty one of mount locations of the conveying device reaches the forward position of the dummy member.

Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring deposition of a liquid-to-pasty medium on a substrate has a sensor fitted with two electrodes and an electronic circuit connected to the sensor for generating a signal which is characteristic of the substrate and the medium. The electronic circuit measures the imaginary component of the electrical permittivity of the substrate moving, together with the medium, between the two electrodes, and uses the measured value to determine the characteristic signal.

Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus monitoring the deposition of a liquid-to-pasty medium on a substrate and comprising at least one sensor fitted with two electrodes which are configured at a given, slight distance from the substrate surface and which apply an AC voltage to the substrate and medium, the substrate moving relative to the sensor, further comprising a test electronics connected to the sensor and emitting a signal which is characteristic of the substrate together with the medium. Based on the known apparatus of the German patent document 4 217 736 C2, the objective of the invention is to create an apparatus defined in the preamble of claim 1 which offers improved reliability and improved accuracy of measurement. This problem is solved in that the apparatus measures the imaginary component of the substrate together with the medium between the two electrodes and thereupon the test electronics uses this measured value to determine the characteristic signal.

Abstract: The present invention is a method of coating a substrate. First, a layer of liquid polymeric coating having a pigment and a solvent is applied to the substrate. An ultrasonic acoustic source is then provided and operated at a frequency of from about above 40 kHz to provide an acoustic pressure field and an acoustic pressure of above 190 dB and directing the main lobe of the acoustic pressure field toward the layer of liquid polymeric coating. This acoustic pressure field reduces the gradient in and smoothes any uneven surface features in the liquid polymeric coating.

Abstract: A system and method is provided that facilitates the application of a uniform layer of photoresist material spincoated onto a semiconductor substrate (e.g wafer). The present invention accomplishes this end by utilizing a measurement system that measures the thickness uniformity of the photoresist material applied on a test wafer by a nozzle, and then adjusting the viscosity of the photoresist material by varying the ratio in a solvent/resist mixture, and/or adjusting the temperature of the mixture. A system and method that employs a plurality of nozzles is also provided that disperses resist at different annular regions on a wafer to facilitate the application of a uniform layer of photoresist material spincoated onto the wafer. The system and method utilize a measurement system that measures the thickness and thickness uniformity of each layer of photoresist material applied at each annular region of the wafer. The measured thickness uniformity and overall thickness for each annular region is then used to adjust the volume and viscosity of a solvent/resist mixture applied through each nozzle.

Abstract: A process of producing an elongated coated strip article having a layer of coating material on each opposite surface of the strip article, in which the ratio of layer thicknesses on opposite sides of the strip article may be set or varied. The process comprises simultaneously applying layers of solidifiable liquid coating materials on the opposite sides of the strip article by advancing the strip article in a direction along a path between opposed coating heads, at least one of which is a floating coating head, having material delivery slots and metering lands for delivery and metering of the liquid coating materials to the opposite surface to form the layers. The ratio of the layer thicknesses may be adjusted when required by varying the path of strip article advance between the floating coating heads to cause changes in angles formed between the strip surfaces and adjacent metering lands on opposite sides of the strip article. The invention also provides apparatus for carrying out the process.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for the controlled placement of a shear-thinnable polymer composition into a moving web. The controlled placement is preferably performed by applying the polymer composition onto a surface of a moving web, shear thinning the composition and placing it into the web, and curing the polymer composition. A preferred apparatus includes one or more process heads that has mounted thereto a rigid knife blade for engagement with the moving web. The knife blade is movable vertically and rotationally. The process head is also movable horizontally along the path of the moving web. A plurality of macro and micro tension zones are established and are monitored for controlling the apparatus and process. Additional measurements of web density, micro porosity, placement of an internal layer of polymer within the web, analysis of elements on the treated web, and the size of the polymer bead applied to the moving web are measured for controlling online the apparatus and the process of this invention. This method and apparatus produces webs that either has some of its structural elements encapsulated by the polymer composition while at least some of the interstitial spaces of the web are open; or has an internal layer extending through the web in a direction generally spaced from at least one major surface thereof; or has both encapsulated structural elements and an internal layer of polymer composition.
