Abstract:
A page is automatically created and transmitted in response to data defining set of images. The data define an image showing a form that has been marked; the data also include information indicating an image destination. The page includes a segment that is a version of an image from the marked form. The page can be another form, a cover sheet, or an error sheet, for example. The segment can be a reduced version of the marked form, such as on an error sheet. Or the segment can be a version of the contents of a field in the marked form, such as on a form, a cover sheet, or a listing sheet. The field can be a cover note field, and if the processor determines that the cover note field has been marked, it can automatically create a cover sheet that includes a segment that is a version of an image of the cover note field. The field can be an identifier field. The processor can create a form with a request field that includes a segment that is a version of an image of the identifier field, identifying an item in relation to which an operation can be requested, such as the recipient of facsimile transmission or a document being facsimile transmitted; or the processor can create a cover sheet with a segment that is a version of an image of the identifier field; or the processor can create a listing sheet in which each item's entry includes a segment that is a version of an image of the item's identifier field. The image destination can be indicated by a check mark in a recipient field, by check marks indicating the telephone number of a fax machine, or by data from a transmitting fax machine indicating the fax machine's telephone number.
Abstract:
A fax system is automated herein by using a modem (10), a computer (12), and an office network which coupled the computer (12) to a plurality of end-user computers (26). A fax is received by the computer (12) through the modem (10). Once the fax is received by the computer (12), a program (14) stores the fax in a computer file (15) in a non-text format. Code (18) converts the non-text format of file (15) to a text format (17) which is read by a pattern recognition program (18). The program (18) determines, from the file (17), a destination of the fax document. The destination can be one or more of a printer (24), a computer in the plurality of computers (26), a default computer, or a default storage location (e.g., disk storage). A log file (19) is kept by computer (12) to record the operations of the computer (12) and receipt and routing information regarding received faxes. The control code (22) coordinates the other programs in memory (13).
Abstract:
The present invention comprises an image based document processing and information management system and apparatus. It provides a more efficient method and apparatus for handling large volumes of form based business transactions using a digital image-based system for the capture, identification and processing of images, statistics and business data. The system converts documents, such as forms and supporting pages, into digital data which can be used to update computer records and to manage and support the adjudicative processing of business transactions by human operators at computer terminals.
Abstract:
A mobile terminal improved in operability concerning fax transmission. A CPU of the mobile terminal sets information indicative of a fax transmission destination, sets reading and transmission information concerning fax transmission and original reading, and sends a request for fax transmission, to an image forming apparatus. When a response notifying capability of fax transmission is received from the apparatus, the CPU causes a message for prompting a user to set an original, to be displayed on a display section. When the original has been set and an instruction for fax transmission from the user is received, the CPU sends an instruction for reading the original and executing fax transmission, together with the transmission destination information, and the reading and transmission information, to the apparatus. The CPU causes a result of fax transmission by the apparatus to be displayed on the display section.
Abstract:
An image processing apparatus capable of reducing time and labor of a user required to set information on a transfer destination. The image processing apparatus communicates with a server which provides a transfer service. An original on which a transfer destination is written is read to generate image data of the original. Optical character recognition is performed on the image data to extract a number having a predetermined number of digits. The number and position information of the number in the image data are stored. Information on the transfer destination, included in the image data, is acquired based on the number and the position information of the number. Control is performed to transmit a transfer instruction notification including the information on the transfer destination to the server.

Abstract:
An electronic device includes a setting unit configured to set setting information of an operation of the electronic device according to common setting information; a designation information acquisition unit configured to acquire designation information, which designates an acquisition origin of the common setting information, via a network; and a setting information acquisition unit configured to acquire the common setting information from the acquisition origin of the common setting information designated by the designation information acquired by the designation information acquisition unit.
Abstract:
An image forming system includes a portable terminal device, an image forming apparatus, and a marker registration circuit. The image forming apparatus prints a marker associated with location information of a user who has instructed execution of printing on a recording medium. The portable terminal device includes an information acquisition circuit and a position notification image output circuit. The information acquisition circuit photographs a marker printed on a recording medium using an imaging device so as to acquire the location information registered in the marker registration circuit, and the location information is associated with the marker photographed by the imaging device. The position notification image output circuit outputs a position notification image that notifies a position corresponding to the location information acquired by the information acquisition circuit to an output device.
Abstract:
An energy saving setting unit controls an image forming apparatus that makes a transition to a power saving state if a transition time passes without any prescribed operation in a normal state, and it includes: a unit for storing specific day information distinguishing a normal operation day and a specific day; an auto pattern updating unit determining the transition time in a normal operation day based on past operational status of the normal operation day of the image forming apparatus; a specific day pattern registering unit receiving and storing setting of the transition time of the specific day; and a switching unit, switching the state of conduction of the image forming apparatus using the transition time determined by the auto pattern updating unit and the stored transition time, on the normal operation day and on the specific day, respectively, based on the specific day information.
Abstract:
An information processing apparatus capable of preventing a user from unnecessarily taking a wasteful action. Whether a communication line is connected to the information processing apparatus and an off-hook state in the information processing apparatus are detected. Whether to turn on a display unit is controlled. When connection of the communication line to the information processing apparatus and the off-hook state are detected the display unit is controlled to turn on. When non-connection of the communication line to the information processing apparatus and the off-hook state are detected, the display unit is controlled not to turn on.
