An operating apparatus comprising: a display unit that has a first mode being capable of selecting a plurality of functions and a second mode being capable of selecting a part of the functions selectable in the first mode, and displays the functions selectable in the first mode when the first mode is selected and displays the functions selectable in the second mode when the second mode is selected; and a control unit that controls, when the second mode is transferred to the first mode, the display unit to display a function introduction screen for introducing a function which is not displayed in the second mode before the functions selectable in the first mode are displayed.

A data processing apparatus is capable of performing at least one of recording operation and playback operation of at least one of image data and audio data. The data processing apparatus includes a storage section for storing identifiers for identification of predetermined operators and fingerprint data of the operators. The identifiers and the fingerprint data are associated with each other. The apparatus further includes an image pickup device for detecting a fingerprint of each operator, an operation section for selecting one of the identifiers stored in the storage section, a fingerprint comparing section for performing comparison to determine whether or not the fingerprint detected by the image pickup device is identical to fingerprint data associated with the identifier selected by the operation section, and a controller for controlling the enabling and disabling of a predetermined operation in accordance with a result of the comparison performed by the fingerprint comparing section.

An image forming apparatus acquires IC card identifying information with an IC card reader. A management server acquires a user ID associated with the acquired IC card identifying information and use limit information concerning use of the image forming apparatus. A process is performed in the image forming apparatus in accordance with the use limit information.
