Abstract: A light guide emits lights incident on an end face from an emitting face extending longitudinally of the guide, while having the lights reflected by its internal face. A sectional shape of the guide in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of this light guide has two opposite parabolas, a line segment connecting the focal points of the two opposite parabolas, and a line segment (bottom face) corresponding to the emitting face. A scattering pattern consisting of white ink is formed on the line segment (bottom face) connecting the focal points. With this guide, the face of a document is to be efficiently illuminated by conversely utilizing the characteristic of the compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) to convert scattered lights extending over a full angle from a limited area into radiant lights confined to a prescribed emission angle and thereby minimizing the expansion of lights.

Abstract: An optical conduction unit (U) has a configuration in which one portion (Sb) and another portion (58a) of an optical conduction body (5) are mated in mutually orthogonal x, y directions with first and second fitting means (64), (64a) of the first member (60A) of a reflector (6). A portion (65b) and another portion (65c) of the second member (60B) of the reflector (6) are mated in the x, y directions with the third and fourth fitting means (64b), (64c) of the first member (60A). With such a configuration, the reflector (6) and optical conduction body (5) can be reliably assembled so that they cannot be easily separated.

Abstract: An image reader for reading an image drawn on a paper or a sheet-like recording medium, an image processor provided with the image reader, such as a copying machine, a scanner and the like, and a fiber lens to be applied to those devices. The image processor has to be large in the whole size of device to read both sides of an original. Therefore, the image processor of the present invention comprises an image reader (10a) on the upper side of transport path and an image reader (10b) on the lower side of that respectively. In order to downsize the device, it is necessary to shorten the diameter of optical fiber (140) of the fiber lens (14) installed in the imager reader as light receiving means. In this case, the optical fiber (140) is provided with a light-absorbing layer 8 (143) around of the optical fiber (140) in order to restrain the crosstalk and the flare phenomenon. The illuminance of light source means (15) installed in the image reader gets smaller as the device is downsized. In case where the illuminance is small, the image quality is deteriorated by the floating of the original. Accordingly, the image reader should be provided with the light source means so as to uniform the illuminance over a specific width of the main and sub scanning directions. Therefore, it is possible to avoid the deterioration of the image quality.

Abstract: A line-illuminating device is provided in an image-scanning device such that the end of a transparent light guide is not disengaged from a casing and uniformity of the light amount can be achieved. A rib is formed unitarily with a resin mold which constructs a light source unit so as to cover an end of a light-emitting plane of the transparent light guide. The end of the light guide can be prevented from being disengaged from the casing by the rib. Another rib is formed unitarily with the end of the casing on the opposite side of the light source unit. This rib covers an opposite end of the light-emitting plane of the transparent light guide, and prevents the opposite end of the light guide from being disengaged from the casing.
