Abstract:
A bearing material and a method for the production thereof are described. The bearing material comprising a matrix of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) having dispersed therein in 10 to 30 volume % polyphenylene sulphide. The method of making a PTFE/PPS bearing material comprises the steps of mixing an aqueous dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene with 10 to 30 volume % of an aqueous dispersion of polyphenylene sulphide, co-coagulating the PTFE and PPS; removing excess water; at least partially drying the wet co-coagulated material to provide an at least partially dried powder material; spreading said at least partially dried powder material particles onto a substrate to form a bearing material layer; compacting said layer; drying said compacted layer to drive off residual liquid; and, sintering said dried, compacted layer at a temperature above the melting point of said PTFE constituent.
Abstract:
A reinforcing underlayment including dry uniform particles evenly applied to a wet bonding material layer on a surface of a substrate. The substrate, including the layers, is then cured to harden the one or more of the layers. A final coating or topcoat is applied to the cured surface of the substrate. The dry particles are evenly distributed onto the bonding material layer creating a uniform surface for subsequent coatings. The dry particles increase the strength of the liquid coatings increasing solid particle density within the coating system and thereby imparting properties not available for the liquid coatings. The present invention enables a user to easily introduce very heavy, dense, strong particles into a liquid coating and allows the user to apply very dense, heavy particles into and onto a wet bonding material layer followed by a subsequent wet topcoat layer which is cured as one contiguous material with reinforcement and underlayment strengthening coming from the added, dry particles.
Abstract:
A sintered copper alloy material product is provided on which a skin (particularly, a skin of a solid lubricant with low adhesion, such as PTFE or molybdenum disulfide) is securely formed on the surface thereof and has good sliding properties and good seizure resistance under unlubricating environments or under corrosive environments. A sintered copper alloy material is processed using a selective chemical etching solution containing a compound of one kind or more selected from the group of consisting of peroxide, peroxocompound, chromic acid and permanganic acid and a compound of one kind or more selected from the group of consisting of phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, zirconic hydrofluoric acid, titanic hydrofluoric acid, titanic acid, molybdic acid, tungstic acid, vanadic acid, niobic acid, and organic chelating agent. Thereafter, a lubricating skin is on the surface of the processed material.
Abstract:
A rotary position sensor is formed with a self-lubricating bearing. The rotary position sensor includes a race which forms one bearing surface. A drive arm assembly forms a bearing element forming two mating bearing surfaces. For applications in which the bearing may be subjected to environmental conditions that could result in corrosion, one bearing surface may be formed from a corrosion resistant metal, such as stainless steel, while the mating bearing surface is homogeneously formed with the bearing element from a composite material which includes PFTE or Teflon. By homogeneously forming the bearing element from a composite material which includes Teflon, wear of the bearing element will not effect lubrication of the bearing.
Abstract:
The invention concerns an open-end spinning apparatus with a spin-rotor, the shaft of which is supported by an aerostatic, radial bearing with an air gap between the bearing assembly and the shaft. The construction material for the bearing surface of the spin-rotor and/or the bearing surface of the radial bearing is polyimide or aramid.
Abstract:
A slide bearing for a centrifugal pump in which the slide bearing is lubricated by the pumped medium and is composed of a stationary part disposed in the housing of the centrifugal pump and a rotatable part which is supported by the shaft of the centrifugal pump and interacts with the stationary part to give a sliding pair. One part of the sliding pair is composed of a composite material, especially carbon fibers or silicon carbide fibers in a matrix of PEEK, carbon or carbon combined with silicon carbide. The other part of the sliding pair has a sliding surface made of a hard metal material and supported by a support material. A bond produced in the molten state is formed between the hard metal material of the sliding surface and the support material which supports the sliding surface of the other part of the slide bearing. The resulting slide bearing can be used in chloride-containing and/or corrosive media and has a sliding surface that is not prone to undercutting corrosion.
Abstract:
An oil-impregnated sintered bearing is comprised of a cylindrical porous bearing body and a non-porous resinous slide member. The bearing body has a first portion providing a part of the slide surface of the bearing and a second portion having an inner periphery. The non-porous resinous slide member is disposed at the inner periphery of the second portion providing the other part of the slide surface. The slide member has a radial thickness that corresponds to a suitable ratio of the radial thickness of the bearing.

Abstract:
Bush 4 is fabricated by providing porous sintered metal layer 7 of copper on the surface side of back metal layer 5 of steel plate through copper plating layer 6 and coating the inside and the surface of porous sintered metal layer 7 with sliding material 8 by impregnation. Sliding material 8 comprises 1-25 vol.% of tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoroalkylvinyl ether copolymer resin, 1-25 vol.% of at least one member selected from the group consisting of oxybenzoylpolyester resin and polyimide resin and 0.1-10 vol.% of hard particles having a Mohs hardness of 4 or more and average particle sizes of 5 &mgr;m or less such as Al2O3 and SiC, the balance being polytetrafluoroethylene resin (55 vol.% or more of the total siding material) as the main component. 0.5-25 vol.% of a solid lubricant such as graphite and MoS2 can be further contained in total together with the hard particles. The sliding material containing polytetrafluoroethylene resin as the main component has an improved fretting wear resistance particularly when used as a bearing material.
